My thoughts on why Google Play coming to Chromebooks has all but killed the tablet.

If you are at all considering an Android tablet purchase at the moment, feel free to stop. I say that because in a couple of weeks, Android apps and the Google Play store will arrive on select Chromebooks. By the end of the year, those same apps will arrive on dozens and dozens of additional …

I'd rather buy a tablet with an attachable keyboard(like the Surface) than a laptop. Now put ChromeOs on it with the ability to install Android apps.... Call me happy.

The IDC reports that Chromebooks outsold Macs during Q1 of 2016, positioning the Google-powered devices to go toe to toe with Microsoft in the low-cost laptop market. #News #Chromebook #Google
For the first time ever, Chromebooks outsold Macs across the board in Q1 of 2016. IDC analysts have confirmed with The Verge that “Chrome OS overtook Mac OS in the US in terms of shipments,” noting that the heaviest market for Chromebooks remains education systems targeting the K-12 demographic. Although they did not confirm a specific number of sales for Google’s low-cost notebooks, they do report that Mac shipments were in the ballpark of 1.76 ...

Android Apps Won't Run On Older Chromebooks

It looks like Android apps won't be running on older Chromebooks and the list for those that make the cut may not make a lot of sense.

Chromebooks outsell Macs

Yet another market Google is taking away from Apple. This one wasn't hard to see coming. Apple has been steadily dumbing down MacOS to the point that it's barely more of a desktop OS than ChromeOS. So it makes sense that you might as well just buy a Chromebook at as little as a tenth the price of a Mac.

Google's budget-friendly laptops have been widely adopted in schools, helping it hit a new milestone.

Simplicity and low maintenance,. Now with Google opening up Android play store for Chrome OS things are just about to get even more interesting.

The answer might surprise you. #chromebook #android
Answer: Your kids. Chromebook leads laptop and desktop sales through U.S. commercial channels to schools, according to NPD. Education is overwhelmingly the primary market for the computers. The institutions can't buy enough of the thangs, for their utility and low-cost compared to notebooks running either OS X or Windows. That cost is as much about extended webapps and services from Google (or its developer partners), available for free or compar...

Poll time! Will you buy a Chromebook once they get Android apps?

Google’s big day 2 announcement at Google I/O centered around the Google Play store and Android apps making their way onto Chromebooks. I followed up that news by writing up a bunch (probably too many) of words on why I think this is a major game-changer and potentially puts the final nail in the Android …

The Verge: Chromebooks Outsell Macs in the US in Q1
#chromeos   #chromebooks

You could keep buying a machine with local storage and apps that you have to install and documents that you could save locally and lose if something goes wrong or your laptop gets stolen... OR you could just use a Chromebook and have all your apps and data on every device you log in to. It's a simpler choice every day.
Google's low-cost Chromebooks outsold Apple's range of Macs for the first time in the US recently. While IDC doesn't typically break out Windows vs. Chromebook sales, IDC analyst Linn Huang...

I am agreeing with anyone here on the usefulness of cb for many purposes. I guess I didn't word it right what I was trying to say about paying for licensing. To add the other programs would be an added cost for google to have them run on chrome, I guess is a better way to put it. Why else would they leave it out if it didn't cost somewhere in the process. The programs didn't change, google changed what it considers useful or not. (to them) I have not heard of adobe creative cloud, and I would love for you to tell me more about that. If there's a way to get adobe to run on cb remotely somehow I will recant any frustrations I have vented here. As far a running out and dropping 1k on a new computer (or so) is not an option at this time as I am disabled and have limited income that I can generate. My friend suggested this cb as a new device for me starting back on the internet after a 6 yr hiatus due to illness. Part of my frustration is not understanding where to go to get the programs I need, or how to find ones that will work on cb. With the router, my machine doesn't even have an ethernet port, so to set up the wifi, it REQUIRES an ethernet cord. (that came from the manufacture's tech support not me I don't care what you say) because it did not work remotely with this cb machine as I have found that MANY things don't run on this machine or they aren't compatible. It was a surprise to me that they would eliminate an important option like an ethernet connection. I wish it was a viable option for me, and it is for most things. I am no expert, obviously, so finding new programs to do simple things is difficult. Yea, I read what you said, just go get another operating system. Okay, I will because I now have to throw good money after bad and get a real computer. This one obviously was a waste for me. What happens if the cloud gets infected with a virus? Then what? I dond't believe that everyone that has one is as happy as you say with it.

I agree!

If you have never considered a #chromebook, I'd highly recommend doing so! There are plenty of great, affordable ones for sale nowadays, and you can even buy two for the price of one Windows laptop, or 3 or 4 for the price of one Mac! (It's no wonder why they are outselling MacBooks.)

#chrome #chromebook #google
Chromebooks are already outselling Macs. So Linus Torvalds is wondering if this really might be the year of the Linux desktop. With the addition of Android apps to the Chromebook, maybe it really will be.

This has given me yet another reason to switch to Chrome OS!

#Chromebook #Android #IO16
It's been rumored for quite some time, and now the news is finally official: Android apps are coming to Chrome OS! Ahead of Google's Coming to a Chromebook near you session at I/O, a post was set live on the Android Developers Blog explaining that developers will be able to bring their Android applications to Chromebooks later this year. This news is pretty great for everyone involved. Devs will be able to expand their application's availabili...
