Engineering

You can design and implement distributed systems that are maintainable and formally correct, and operate them in production. You want to work on FaunaDB itself to add features and improve consistency, operability, and performance.
 
We value experience with:
 
- Scala and the JVM
- Asynchronous programming
- Fault-tolerant network services
- Performance analysis
 
Understanding consensus protocols or relational algebra would be a plus.

We are seeking a technical leader who can take the reins on day-to-day operations and also grow the team without compromising our values.

As Director of Engineering, you’ll be working with an exceptional team of senior engineers and engineering managers, and will be responsible for executing on the Fauna roadmap. Strategically, you will interact with Fauna’s marketing, sales, and DX teams to ensure alignment across the company, and work directly with the CTO on product direction. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the company’s strategic direction.

This is a role with potential to grow into VP Engineering.

  • Consistently communicate strategic priorities to team members
  • Scope, prioritize and deliver on the product roadmap

You are comfortable with taking responsibility for the end-to-end interaction flows for Fauna’s website and tools, as well as all front-end decisions across the company. You are passionate about building scalable, performant, and maintainable front-end applications.

You are an avid collaborator, enthusiastic about forging relationships with design and core engineering teams for web interactions. You take pride in creating rich, intuitive, and engaging web experiences for future customers and current users.

You will:

  • Have collaborative ownership of the marketing website
  • Work with our Sales Engineering team to develop functionality to support sales, marketing, and user retention goals
  • Collaborate with our designer to create a complete UX experience

You have:

  • Knowledge of data visualization or CSS and JS animation
  • Experience with JavaScript, HTML, SCSS, and SVG
  • An understanding of responsive design and implementation
  • Familiarity with cross-platform compatibility
  • Enthusiasm for automated testing

Sales

You'll be the manager on the initial sales team where you'll identify, qualify, and close new opportunities. You’re excited about expanding the position into a leadership role by building a great sales team of like-minded and passionate contributors.

You’re able to create and curate multimillion-dollar client relationships, and have enterprise software sales experience and a history of working with growing companies. You’re comfortable speaking and writing about technical subjects, whether in front of a CTO, a product manager, or an individual software engineer.

You will:

  • Source and qualify customer leads
  • Guide customers through initial conversations about product suitability
  • Translate customer conversations into feedback for the product team
  • Collaborate with engineering to develop project proposals and negotiate pricing
  • Help the team implement a repeatable enterprise sales process

You are:

  • Experienced with SaaS, PaaS, or on-prem enterprise software sales, preferably in the database technologies industry
  • Able to navigate procurement processes, identify decision makers, and support internal champions
  • Good at building client relationships 
  • Accustomed to working at an early-stage company
