Syntax
Description
The dd is the second part of the
dt : dd pairing
that constitutes an item in a definition list (dl). While the dt contains
the term to be defined, the dd section of the pairing
contains the definition description content.
You
can use multiple dt and multiple dd
elements to describe the dt elements. The
dd element also differs from the dt
in that it can contain Block-level Elements
such as example headings and paragraphs.
Example
This example shows the
use of two dd elements to describe the term
“spam:”

Spam

unsolicited email sent in the hope of increasing sales
of some product

a brand name for tinned meat comprising pork and ham

Use This For …
The dd element is applied to descriptive text
that clearly explains the meaning of the content contained within the
preceding dt element. This content can be formatted
further using headings (h1, h2,
etc.), paragraphs (p) and blockquotes, as well as Inline and Phrase Elements.
