Syntax
Description
The
scheme attribute provides additional information
about the makeup of the meta content. It’s used in
conjunction with the profile attribute of the head
element (this provides a pointer to a set of instructions about the
contents of the profile, which relate directly to the meta
name attribute values).
A
scheme can be useful for disambiguating some
meta information that could be interpreted in a number
of ways without this extra help—for example, if a date is specified in a
meta element as "01-02-07", would
that mean "1st February 2007" or "2nd January
2002"?
Example
This
scheme attribute identifies a Dublin Core date
scheme:
<meta name="DC.date" content="2003-06-08" scheme="DCTERMS.W3CDTF" />
Value
The value of
scheme is a URI that specifies the location of the
profile information on the server.

element—all browsers expose a document’s meta information via the Document
Object Model.
