Good to speak to Gordon Sondland about the future of Transatlantic trade. Agree that the needs to put an end to its "defensive protectionism", but we also need to see an end to equally protectionist measures from the U.S.

committee just adopted my report on content. 35 in favour, eight abstentions, one vote against. Next step should be approval by the full EP in Strasbourg next week.

No - in the Parliament text we clarify that it’s only illegal content, under the definitions of the existing terrorism directive & that it can be reviewed by the platform’s host MS as well - exactly to ensure that this type of content isn’t banned.

The EU likes to speak the language of self-determination and democracy, but the 's committee has voted to ignore that today. No-deal legislation on just passed. The text falsely asserts that is a colony.

And the UK will not get the benefits from any EU trade deals. This is why joining a post- customs union with the is such a bad idea. It's not the status quo, it's the worst of all worlds.

Spain's government likes to play politics with when it's down in the polls. Surprised to read reports that EU officials have made the same mistake. The Rock is not a colony.

Shocked by my colleagues' decision to prevent Labour MEP from handling key no-deal Brexit legislation on visa-free travel. He has been forced out for rightly opposing Spanish attempts to describe as a colony in the text. Gibraltar is British.

If that was true I would be more supportive but the reality is there is little will from the EU to do this. They have been clear, the UK can join the EU customs union - like Turkey.

That appears to back up my point. He makes it clear that we would be relying on the goodwill of other countries to open up their markets to us when they don’t need to & they already have access to our market

We do lose their benefits if we are outside the EU. The biggest misunderstanding about the customs union is that if we stay in we keep access to EU trade deals - we don’t - this explains why

This is true but omits the worst part of a customs union once outside the EU - EU trade deals won’t apply to UK exports, so we will actually lose much of the global access we have now & won’t be able to replace it. It’s an EU only trade policy
