New video footage of Harambe the gorilla suggest he was trying to protect a four year old boy who fell into the zoo enclosure just minutes before the 400-pound animal was fatally shot. The clip shows Harambe standing guard over the boy in the corner of the moat, and the two even share a brief moment holding hands. Witnesses said the gorilla was acting protectively in the tense situation, which may have been aggravated by panicked onlookers who screamed as they watched from above. Cincinnati Zoo Director Thane Maynard confirmed the gorilla did not appear to be attacking the child, but he described it as 'an extremely strong animal in an agitated situation' before supporting the animal response team's decision to kill Harambe. The incident, which was captured on cell phone, has sparked an outcry of emotion, with thousands of mourners branding it a 'senseless death'.

Johnny Depp jumped on board a boat to sail to his concert in Stockholm, Sweden, tonight amid heightened security. Eight security guards surrounded the star who is facing allegations he abused his wife Amber Heard, who has filed for divorce. The trailer for Pixar's Finding Dory (left) has been released to both fanfare and controversy after viewers pointed out the two-minute clip may feature a lesbian couple (right). Finding Dory has already garnered considerable buzz for its June release after the latest trailer dropped this weekend, racking up more than four million views. At one point in the clip, Tank the octopus makes its way into a stroller, and two women turn around, shocked that the baby has suddenly transformed into an eight-legged sea creature. One viewer suggested the women were a couple, and Twitter lit up with excitement over the possibility (inset). While subtly suggested gay characters have made an appearance in Pixar films like Frozen and Zootopia, viewers celebrated what could be the animation studio's first-ever representation of lesbians.

A 13-year-old boy was seriously injured after being attacked by a shark on a Florida beach. Lifeguards estimate the shark that bit the unidentified boy was about five to six feet long. The shark latched on to the backside of the boy's right knee and his calf before swimming off. The boy and his stepfather were swimming in chest-deep water about two-feet deep on Sunday afternoon when the shark attacked. Although the boy's injuries were deemed 'severe' they are not believed to be life-threatening.

A man who has been charged with killing his partner and her two young children made claims on social media that a you are 'no longer a man' once you 'raise your hand' to a woman. Steven Peet (right), 30, was charged with three counts of murder after police found the body of his girlfriend Adeline Rigney-Wilson (left), 29, along with her six-year-old daughter and five-year-old son inside a home in Hillier just after 1.30pm on Monday following an alleged domestic dispute. Mr Peet, who was living with the family but not father to the children, shared a chilling picture on Facebook in February - just weeks after they moved in together - that said: 'The day you raise your hand on a woman. That day you're no longer officially a man.' He has been pictured sporting three skulls tattooed on the front of his neck (inset).

Ethan Menges, now 25, collapsed in January 2015 after contracting staph pneumonia. Doctors put him on life support (inset), which directed his blood to his vital organs - and away from his arms and legs. The procedure saved Menges' life but cost him his limbs, which doctors had to amputate in September. He spent a month at a rehabilitation center, which is where he proposed to Jordan Mathieu. The pair (pictured left on their wedding day) tied the knot earlier this month in Roscoe. Mathieu was pictured helping Menges with his prosthetic leg before the ceremony (bottom right) and he used his new arm to feed her a piece of wedding cake afterwards (upper right).

An eight-foot-tall angel hidden beneath plaster for hundreds of years has now been uncovered at the 'birthplace of Jesus.' The elaborate mosaic was found during restoration on the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, built nearly 1,700 years ago. Technicians delicately scraped away layers of plaster to reveal the ancient tiles that have survived centuries of neglect, and are now working to bring it back to life. The angel is pictured above, and the inset photos on the right show the progression as plaster was carefully scraped away.

Kansas City detectives revealed a major development in the 26-year-old cold case murder of 19-year-old, Sarah Jo DeLeon (left, right and inset), as they said they have identified a suspect, who is a woman from the Kansas City metropolitan area. DeLeon was stabbed multiple times and she suffered a head wound. Her body was found near train tracks along Interstate 435 in December 1989. Police said Sunday that they found a pattern of behavior that might link DeLeon's murder to the unsolved 1994 murder of Diana Marie Ault and an abduction in Kansas City on February 13, 1987.

A mother and daughter in West New York, New Jersey were arrested on Friday after more than 85 cats and dogs were found in deplorable conditions inside their small apartment. The animals were found in crates stacked form floor to ceiling in a nine-foot by nine-foot room. The veterinarian who treated the animals after they were rescued said that many of the abused pets needed to be put down.

A Russian judge angrily slapped down the nanny who decapitated a four year old girl after she pleaded to be allowed out of a prison psychiatric hospital to serve her detention under house arrest. The case sent shockwaves around the world when she brandished Anastasia (Nastya) Meshcheryakova's severed head in the street close to Oktyabrskoe Pole metro station minutes after murdering her with a knife in the girl's family home, bottom right. But judge Judge Evgeny Naidyonov, inset top left, angrily denied her request amid fears she could decapitate someone else.

While playing a typical Sunday game at Buffalo Creek Golf Course in Palmetto, Charles Helms was able to get a video of a dinosaur-like alligator casually strolling across the green. spectators to ride so somebody can get a picture,' golf course employee Wendy Schofield told News 3. 'He doesn't bother anybody and they don't bother him, he's like a mascot for the course, which is owned by Manatee County. He has been here for a very, very long time, he's not new at all.' Witnesses estimate the gator to be between 15 and 16 feet long.

The child's lifeless body was pulled from the sea on Friday off the south coast of Italy after the capsizing of a boat which had set off from Sabratha in Libya the night before. German rescuers released the picture in a bid to persuade European authorities to ensure safe passage to migrants, after hundreds drowned in the Mediterranean in a matter of days. The photograph shows the baby being cradled in the arms of a rescuer known only as Martin, who described how the 'sun shone into its bright, motionless eyes'.

The pair were on holiday to celebrate the end of Ms Mitchell's cancer battle. Ms Waldron, from Lithgow in NSW, was in north Queensland to support her childhood friend who lived in Cairns.

A cruise ship arrived at an Alaska port carrying a dead, endangered whale on its bow. The Zaandam, a Holland America Line cruise ship, was preparing to dock in Seward just after 5am Sunday when the juvenile fin whale was spotted on top of the ship's bulbous bow, the part of the bow under the water line. Company spokeswoman Sally Andrews said in an email to the Associated Press that the whale wasn't there a half-hour earlier.

This is the moment a cheeky stag photobombed a snap of one of Scotland's most iconic mountains. Last weekend, Erin Garrett visited Glencoe in the Highlands to capture the stunning scenery, including the majestic peak Buachaille Etive Mor. One man showed off his handy air pressurized bait launcher in San Diego County, California, (main) while sidestepping the rules prohibiting overhead casting at Oceanside pier (inset). In the 16-second clip, the man effortlessly launches the bait about 300yards into the Pacific Ocean with his foot on the trigger. While bait launchers can retail for hundreds of dollars online, this man told amused onlookers he built his own for under $100. Not unlike homemade potato cannons, the launchers are often homemade contraptions consisting of pipes and other repurposed hardware like sprinkler valves and air compressors. Fishing enthusiasts have taken to online forums and YouTube videos with instructions on how to build the DIY cannons.

Why waste energy when you can have machines working for you? A Texas dad was filmed pulling his twin sons around in a cart behind a radio-controlled car.  The video was uploaded to YouTube by the two-year-old boys' mother, Julie Thomas. The siblings definitely do not seem to mind their dad's slothful decision. In the footage, they are seen giggling as the Traxxas car pulls them forward in a red cart. But when the RC accidentally backs up on the cart, the twins do seem a little startled.

Footage shows the rescue team in Hambantota, Sri Lanka, desperately trying to free the adorable baby elephant after it became trapped by the drain, eventually pulling it back up to surface. It is unclear how the elephant got down the drain, and it was taken to a nearby animal hospital for attention after it was rescued.

The unnamed workman was pulled into the device and miraculously managed to avoid being crushed to death by the machinery as only his head remained visible from the outside. He was reportedly repairing the device in Beibei District of Chongqing, a major city in south-west China, when he accidentally fell into the escalator. The man was rushed to hospital following his ordeal, where his condition remains unknown.
