The Last Guardian is coming to PlayStation 4 on October 25th
It's finally coming
0After what could be called the one of the most agonizing waits in video game history, The Last Guardian for the PlayStation 4 finally has a release date: October 25th, 2016. Announced at Sony's press event at E3, it's the latest checkpoint in a seven year history of anticipation. Sony didn't show a whole lot of new gameplay, however, but we did see some poignant scenes, as you can see in the video above and the screencap below:
The Last Guardian is the final chapter in the trilogy that started with Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Since 2009, we've been waiting for announcements about the game, which has been beset with delays after originally being announced for a 2011 release on the PlayStation 3. Sony made a big splash with it last year at E3, opening its keynote with gameplay footage on the PS4.
The plot still involves a boy who has been kidnapped and left in some ancient ruins, then befriends Trico. The two then need to escape the ruins by exploring and solving various puzzles. Trico seems to be the real star of the game, mainly because it's variously described as a giant dog, bird-dog, bird dog thing, dogbird, half-cat half-dog half-bird (that's a lot of halves), and so on. Whatever your attitude towards mythological hybrid creatures, your attitude towards Trico should be empathy. Just look at the gameplay footage Sony showed last year:
