what women on the internet do not think misandry is:

• making fun of men for their physical appearance
• making fun of men for their hobbies
• insulting men’s intelligence or putting them down simply for speaking their minds
• not allowing men to have preferences for their partners, physical or otherwise
• making it seem like boys are some lesser species than girls
• saying “I hate men” and “men should die”
• judging someone before you know them just because they’re male

what women think misandry is:

• ????????
• ????
• ??
• ?????
• nothing???
• they think misandry doesn’t exist??
• or worse they think misandry is cool and empowering???

society: we hate men. men exists for females.

male positivity: fuck what society says, you exist for you. there’s nothing wrong with being male.

society: we love females. females are great. let’s praise them and adore them and coddle them and bend over backwards for them.

female positivity: females are great. it’s okay to be a misandrist, fuck what those mean nasty d*cks say. you deserve to be praised and adored. don’t let those big meanie d*cks tell you that you need to change your misandristic ways. <3333

exclusionary politics

If you think excluding people - ‘oppressive’ or otherwise - from important conversations is they way to change people & make progress, you’re so incredibly wrong. The only thing you’re doing is creating an echo chamber, which will cause you to remain in the same place socially that you complain about being in.

By positing queerphobia as simply bigotry against a specific attraction, pro-“SGA” discoursers are at best shortsighted and at worst highly disingenuous.

Patriarchy requires a binary, so that it may categorize women as objects for sexual and labor use and men as the users of those objects. Patriarchy thus requires heteronormativity: no median category can exist outside those roles, and no one assigned to one of these roles is allowed to act other than in accordance with that role, because if that were seen to be possible, the rest of the structure would be seen as mutable.

(For the purposes of this post, since we are talking about what occurs within the framework of the binary-requiring patriarchy, “men” refers to those assigned the gender “male,” and “woman” those asigned female. Note that assigned gender under the patriarchy is simultaneously fixed and conditional. Patriarchy dictates that one cannot really change one’s own gender, despite one’s best attempts, but its the worst punishment for acting as if one is trying to do so is to declare the criminal unworthy of a gender, or at least the protections earned by conforming to it.)

Societally accepted exceptions to these strict roles can be boiled down to two main scenarios: where women’s lack of social and legal agency has led to a conflation of femininity with immaturity and legal minority (and in some patriarchal societies, the status of slavery or property), or where some further status as Other marks a sub-class of men and/or women as othered from the normal gender roles, so long as they still adhere to the new parameter of being subservient to the non-othered men and women. I speak, of course, of pederastic cultures/pedophilia, and intersectional (sexual) oppression.

In this larger context, homophobia per se is only a subroutine of the larger algorithm of societal control used to maintain the structure of the patriarchy. And, further, homophobia exists because gay attraction is outside the roles of what a man or woman under patriarchy should do–not because it is “unnatural” or “ungodly,” those are simply justifications; the “non-procreative” argument (remember that patriarchy requires a binary) is closer to the heart of it.

Men as a category are not allowed to have sex with men (barring the exceptions in paragraph 4) nor to refuse sex with women because this is alien to their role as users of women and, more importantly (expecially where male gayness is seen through an active/passive binary), simply not being women; obviously assuming the visible markers of being a woman is right out.

Women are not allowed to have any sexual agency at all, really, and both voluntary sex with another woman (except for the pleasure of a man) and refusing sex to a man while unclaimed by another man are exercises of sexual agency. Attempting to switch roles and be a man is also condemned, but since a patriarchal society is replete with the message that male = best and female = [any number of adjectives akin to bad/insufficient], woman => man is less condemned and less harshly punished (even sometimes thought of as a form of self-improvement!) than the reverse.

Obviously this is a simplification to a macro-societal level, and if one were to zoom in there would of course be any number of highly visible exceptions not mentioned above, but we are talking about the structure of the patriarchy here, not the color of the paint on its girders.

In short, positing queerphobia as based on attraction falls short of the root cause–patriarchal control of gender for its own ends. The attraction is condemned because it threatens to destabilize patriarchal roles and thus male supremacy. The criterion for queer identity and experiencing queerphobic oppression should not be “basically gay”; it should start with transmisogyny and otherness to heteronormativity and work from there.

“you just hate men, you stupid femenazi” as a feminist, i strongly and openly advocate for equality in ways that would benefit men as well, such as that men can be raped and abused too, not just women. i also firmly believe in boys wearing skirts and makeup and having long hair and doing whatever the fuck they like with their bodies just as women should be able to. i think men should be allowed to display emotion without it being displayed as weak. im sick of this toxic masculinity, and im doing my part to fight it. are you?

female positivity is millions of stories being reduce to “a minority of women” and “not all women” and all kinds of female-positive bullshit, but a handful of stories about men or even just one story of a man is proof that men do it just as much as females.

Soooooooo

Pretty shitty that the guy who shouted about how disgusting my body was/tell people intimate details about me in a bar full of comrades and then proceeded to harass me is still active in the lefty student group and there’s nothing anyone is going to say to him.

humph

(oh yeah, and when he dropped off for a bit after all of that happened everyone blamed me for infighting, so that was cool)

I’d say most of us have never seen a man actually love a woman and genuinely respect her, seeing her as more than something to fuck. … And yet, how many of you believe your boyfriend or husband is the One True Exception? … If you’re finding yourself believing you’re oh so lucky to have found that one man on earth that defies the rule, you’re being played. You’re being lied to and I hope more women start questioning how genuine their boyfriend’s ‘feminist views’ really are.

Fantasy does NOT have to follow real world rules. Fantasy does NOT have to relate to some real world event, country, concept, law, or history. Fantasy does NOT have to mirror any particular time period or country, even if you’re basing your world on a real world one. There is NO SUCH THING as “historical accuracy” in fantasy as it relates to the real world.

THE ONLY THING Fantasy has to do to be believable is follow the established rules OF ITS OWN WORLD. Fantasy can literally be anything you imagine it to be.

If your fantasy world excludes people of color or those belonging to the LGBT+ community, if it’s grossly misogynistic and white cis-male centric, that’s because YOU made it that way. Stop blaming “historical accuracy” or “believability”. It’s not the genre; it’s YOU.

Bisexual women experience the highest rates of domestic violence among women–higher than straight women and lesbians. This is probably because bi women frequently face the intersections of misogyny and homophobia in relationships with straight men, and also experience unique stigma and pressures for being bi.

All the media’s rhetoric blaming Amber Heard’s bisexuality for the divorce and abuse both stems from and feeds into this reality. Bi women are at extremely high risk, and it’s simply not talked about enough.

Imagine if 99.9% of terrorists were women.

We would not shut up about gender. There would be a million politicians and newspaper columns analysing “what is it about women that is making them kill?” “What is it about how women are raised?” “What is our culture telling women about violence?” “What books and movies are women reading and watching that compel them to do this?” “Is it biological? We should probably legislate their bodies right? They have an excess of a genetic chemical known as oxythorconopolonomon that makes them more prone to aggression and with just a small incision we can..” Everyone from Trump to Oprah would be talking about this non-stop.

But because 99.9% of terrorists are men, we don’t look at gender. That’s how much we’ve normalised male violence. We don’t ask what it is about *this* category of people and how we raise men that makes them feel validated to others’ bodies. Gender and patriarchy isn’t the only factor here but it’s a big one. Why are terrorists and shooters almost always men?

Representation gothic

There is a new strong female character with short hair and a sword. She is straight “to break stereotypes.” There are dozens of strong female characters with short hair and swords, and they are all straight “to break stereotypes.” There has never been a strong female character with short hair and a sword who was gay or bisexual at all. All new such characters must be straight “to break stereotypes.”
