Penne with Pesto Trapanese – A Sicilian Recipe

August 18, 2015

While basil pesto is the most well known pesto, every region in Italy makes pesto with freshly available local produce. According to Lidia Bastianich, the Italian cuisine expert, the word pesto comes from the verb ‘pestare’, which means ‘to mash’. This means you can pretty much mash up any fresh ingredients to make a pesto, and toss it along with pasta, vegetables or chicken and you have a dish ready right there

  • And I can't not share a close up of this plate of perfection - I have huge admiration for people and places that do simple things well. You may say it's just Idli Vada Chutney what's the big deal. But the kind of dedication and process that goes into getting these simple dishes out with the exact same flavour plate after plate is immense.
This place in South Bangalore is a must visit for local tiffin dishes like Idli, Vada, Dose, Karabaath and filter coffee. Seating is just benches outside the place and under the trees, but with food so good, you won't care much for where you're sitting :)
  • 2 plates Idli Vada in a pool of super fresh and tasty coconut chutney that you can't have enough of
-1 plate chow chow baath i.e.-Kara baath+ kesari baath with some thick chutney
Taaza Thindi with its long queues for coupons and crowds spilling all over, is totally worth it because it makes simple food so so delicious. Vada perfectly crisp, idli soft and fluffy, chutney totally on point. I love this place!! 💓💓💓
  • A strong filter coffee like this makes Sunday mornings even better! This cup at Taza Thindi hit the spot :) We went all the way from Whitefield to Jaya Nagar to meet up some friends here this morning. The drive was totally worth it.
  • This post for all you tea lovers out there!Remembering the morning tea at Biksthang farm in West Sikkim. Temi is a large tea estate here. And being in Sikkim, it's all certified organic.
Just headed back from a hearty breakfast at this hugely popular place in Jaya Nagar called Taza Thindi. If I lived anywhere close to this place, I wouldn't ever cook breakfast at home. SO GOOD!
Can't want to share some of the pics with you :)
  • Good workout day.
Good food day.
Had to end with this.
Bruichladdich, you beauty.
  • Chia seed pudding at the Happy Healthy Me organic store lunch today...creamy, thick and strongly cinnamony, this was a delicious healthy treat!
  • Do you know the one thing I shop for when I travel?
Not clothes.
Not curios.
Not jewellery.
It’s seeds and plants.
I love to get a local herb or vegetable back home, so when this grows in my garden, it reminds me of the place of our vacations.
I did that in our trip to Europe last year. I bought a few seeds - red radish, kale, watercress etc. The kale has been growing beautifully, a gift that keeps on giving.
So when I went to Sikkim in May, I knew I wanted to get a few seeds back. I trawled a lot of markets, but did not find any for sale. Finally, I asked a vegetable stall lady and she said I could use the corn they sell for making popcorn and grinding into flour as seeds. I got a bag of this corn and also picked a few dried beans from her stall. The first thing I did on getting home was to sow the corn. I shelled the beans and sowed the speckled black and cream coloured seeds. It makes me so happy to see these bean climbers doing well. They are giving out tiny magenta flowers and I can’t wait to see how the beans turn out. And the corn seeds germinated in just a couple of days. The plants are now over 2 feet tall with silken strips for leaves. Check my stories to see these beauties!
I’m thrilled to see a little bit of Sikkim in my kitchen garden.💜💜💜
  • Another staple in my garden- all it takes is to grab a handful of fenugreek seeds from the kitchen and scatter it on prepared soil.
This is one of my favourite leafy greens - paratha, thepla, alu methi, methi na Muthia, so many dishes can be made with this humble Indian green.
I also make a kickass salad with tender methi leaves and sprouts.
As you can see, today's mood is 🍃
