The Ebola outbreak in Nord-Kivu and Ituri provinces is still ongoing, with 752 cases and 465 deaths (CFR: 61.8%) reported as of 30 January.
Response continues to be hindered by insecurity and community reluctance, with an increase in protests and security incidents against humanitarian workers being recorded since December 2018.

YAOUNDE, Jan 31 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Teenage girls growing up in areas hit by harsh drought and other climate shocks in Lesotho are more likely to drop out of school, start having sex earlier and contract HIV, researchers said.
In a study looking at the link between climate change and HIV infection since antiretroviral treatment drugs became widely available in sub-Saharan Africa, researchers found that severe drought threatens to drive new HIV infections.
1 Introduction
The HIV Estimates Accuracy Tool is an R-based application that uses statistical methods to allow for adjusted estimates from HIV surveillance data taking into account the issues of missing data and reporting delay. While it does not replace the knowledge of data analysis with adjustments, it is intended for routine application in surveillance as no complex programming skills are needed.
Abuja 30th January 2019. The Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has urged effective and integrated approaches to conflict prevention in order to achieve the goals of a more stable, prosperous region.
The charge was given at the start of 3-Day special retreat for Focal Points of the ECOWAS Conflict Prevention Framework (ECPF) at Goshen city, Nigeria.

Over the past five years, immunization coverage in sub-Saharan Africa has stagnated at 72%, exposing populations to vaccine-preventable diseases and outbreaks.
By 2050, half of South Asia’s population will become vulnerable to extreme weather events and natural disasters, under a carbon-intensive scenario.
The 2018 floods in Kerala, India, the 2015 earthquake in Nepal, and the 2009 Cyclone Aila in Bangladesh have already shown the heavy toll such disasters can take.

Farmers can soon access finger millet varieties that not only withstand drought but are also resistant to parasites and diseases. This is due to the boost received from a finger millet Crop Wild Relatives (CWR) pre-breeding project led by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and funded by the Crop Trust which ensures funding until 2020.
