Meh... I see the humor in it, but it's kinda childish and petty, no? On a scale of 1-10 on the clever joke scale, I'd maybe give it a 3?

(Edit: okay fine, I'll give it a 5, it was pretty funny and I giggled)

Also, Trump is perfectly capable of doing idiotic things, as are we all, but I don't think it is anywhere near a fair assessment to actually brand him an idiot. He may be a pretty awkward, scheming, narcissistic, and goofy person....but I really would not call the guy an idiot and I think there is an earnest and kind side to the man as well, even if he has a weird way of showing it. The Trump Derangement Syndrome and anti-think is bad enough on all sides as it stands currently, and it might not be in everyone's best interest to continue that trend.

Anyway, just friendly advice, for what it is or isn't worth, from a total stranger. Anyway, cheers!

I agree, he isn’t really an idiot, but I do think it is pretty clever jab at trump and it’s Green Day so I support it lol.

Yeah, it is kinda funny :P

Kayne could take her :P

I'm going to get downvoted for this, but no they're not. Read blackpeopletwitter sub. They're straight up calling Kanye an Uncle Tom, white man, sell-out, mental case, etc. The Kool-Aid is too deep. Dems have done a good job convincing minorities that Republicans are all old, white, rich plantation owners.

Why do a disturbing number of black folks always call other black folks who differ from the standard, accepted opinion an "Uncle Tom?" I mean, it would make more sense to use that horrid term "race traitor" in their case because Uncle Tom was the hero of the story. Clearly anyone who calls their brothers and sisters "Uncle Tom" has never read the book...so, I am dumbfounded as to why people think that's an insult. I mean, Uncle Tom's Cabin was definitely a fixture for the abolitionist movement and Uncle Tom was their positive figure.

Either way, Candice rocks and I love what she's trying to do! The black community deserves happiness and prosperity, and I think if people culturally follow her lead, it'll happen, which excites me :)

Honestly, why does CNN bother having town halls? (Oh right, to push their bullshit narrative, and to get their ratings out of the dumpster)

"Having an extensive vocabulary is of far greater use in the wider world than some outdated concept like "a sense of humour."

Clearly, vocabulary is much more important to him than pesky things like sentence flow, decent grammar, and spelling. Be wary though, as you said "Jesus," which may make you the next target of his well-planned-out nihilist atheist speech. "Jesus--pah! your fake deity to whom you so slavishly pray--how droll!"

As someone trying to build a career, I can guarantee you, a sense of humor is way more valuable than an extensive vocabulary. We've got one guy in the office who talks in this really awkward and cumbersome way just to use big words, and it's definitely not getting him anywhere. Meanwhile the bosses win contracts because they're easy to get along with and can hold a conversation.

Yep, oftentimes a good sense of humor saves the day!

Helium is not flammable, wtf is in these balloons?

Maybe it was Hydrogen? I was wondering the same thing.

What part of "nearby flammable gas" don't people understand? O__O

I mean, Rick basically explains to the Gromflamites, who are trying to get him to reveal his inter-dimensional travel math, that it was a fabricated backstory before they end up back in the Shonies (which they never really left). You can kinda tell something's off with that backstory before he ends up saying that he made it up too, since it's implied that both Beth and his wife get killed when that bomb goes off, while the real Beth is actually likely still alive in C-137. So, if that wasn't his real past then where's Beth's mom? Dead? Murdered? Cronenberged?

Still, another Rick killing his wife so that he'd have a reason to invent the portal gun? I could totally see that being the start of Rick's unfeeling alcoholic problems.

Very cool! I love exploring microbiomes. This kind of reminds me of the wow factor I had when I learned that the main cause of ulcers is bacterial as well. Particularly Helicobacter pylori, which apparently has a CagA+ strain that is linked to most types of stomach cancer?

Well, that and people who don't own restaurants in NYC probably hate to be reminded of their utter lack of an ability to cook palatable foods.

It's kind of true. There have been episodes that have given good development to Beth and Jerry's marital issues, Beth's psychological oddities, and her relationship with Rick. I really want to see them explore the similarities/differences between Rick and Morty's relationship and Beth and Jerry's relationship. I think in some ways Jerry is to Beth what Morty is to Rick.

They do some development of Summer too, but I'd like to see more development of Summer.

Forgive me, I think I'm a bit out of the loop here, but what happened at 11pm on adult swim?

Does Rick have the power to transcend his original form, insofar that he can cheat death? I mean he basically creates a younger clone of himself and transplants his mind into the clone. That's actually crazy enough to work too, and we're getting there slowly but surely, considering that two guys from MIT just got funding for a way to effectively preserve the neural structures and tissues of a pig brain and they're seeding investment to turn that technology into a product that people can sign up for...kinda like that one cryonics company does...Man, Rick makes you think though: maybe we've been going about solving these problems all wrong.

I've always thought of the evolutionary process to be something where intelligence has the potential to devlop in humans over time that we get infinitesimally closer to God-like or God status; it's not like Rick hasn't shown us this idea time and time again in the things he does that suggest he's--in some sense--a God. A lot of people fear God, at least for now. Religion requires discipline, and discipline takes religion. :P

I think people - myself included - are just confused about why exactly you're trying to shoehorn the concept of religion into a show where one of the titular characters (who is presented as being the smartest being alive and referred to as such on multiple occasions) has expressly said the phrase: "There is no God", and which clearly ridicules organised religion with its portrayal of Head-ism.

It's a funny show where the creators can just dick around with pseudo-sci-fi bullshit, with the odd sprinkling of reflection on current events. Don't try to give it a deeper meaning.

That was one of the episodes I thinking about with that one, actually. Though you should read earlier in the thread to know that it was a joke. Apparently it was just not delivered or received well. So, I'll disregard that shoehorn comment. It is a neat idea that he is considered the smartest being in the mutli-verse but he was created by human beings who are just as fallible as you and I. So, for what it's worth, consider that. It's a fun show. Sometimes it's just artists and writers dicking around (I do that myself frequently) and other times, as per the various writers' own commentary, there is some deeper meaning to it. It's storytelling and an expression of the human psyche and people's differing ability to understand and control the universe around them, so why wouldn't you want to explore that?

At this point, this thread seems like a circle jerk, so, respectfully, I'm out. Cheers, everyone.

Yeah, alright, fair enough. I didn't really read all of this thread tbh. But your joke really didn't come across as a joke. Far be it from me to tell you if you should or shouldn't be religious, that's your bag and ain't nothin' to do with me, but it looked like you were trying to present a proper argument, and it came across as significantly flawed.

It is a neat idea that he is considered the smartest being in the mutli-verse but he was created by human beings who are just as fallible as you and I.

Well, yeah. But that's irrelevant.

When someone creates any kind of media (tv, books, etc), they present an entire reality. Everything takes place within that reality. In that reality, Rick isn't a fictional entity, he's a human. Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon don't exist in that universe. We have to take what we know of that reality (and any beings within it) within the context of that reality. That's the entire point of storytelling and it's core to the suspension of disbelief.

That reality presents Rick as the smartest being in the universe, both by his actions and by his and others' opinion of him. So we take it as so.

Also, some food for thought: I am not convinced that Rick is actually as apathetic as he leads on. In a multi-verse where nothing matters he has the option to just do nothing, yet he is the opposite of an idle creature and he's still a slave to his own emotions in some way.

Yeah, but... He's human. Just because nothing matters doesn't mean things can be a distraction, or entertaining, or emotionally worthwhile. Nothing matters, but by virtue of being human he still cares for Beth, Summer and Morty, and again by virtue of being human he still gets bored or depressed. Existential nihilism does a real number on someone's mental health, it's no surprise he drinks so much and goes on such wild, dangerous adventures.

I'm probably terrible at joke delivery :P By the way, Jerry isn't terrible, he's quite the opposite. He may be irritating sometimes, but I'd trust him to tell me the truth as he knew it when I was afraid to.

That's true. Suspension of disbelief is awesome.

And yeah, existential nihilism really does take its toll eventually. I can't imagine doing that for more than 5 decades, yet damn, Rick manages to hold it together for the most part. He's a total asshole, but it's worth it. He might also be a lovable asshole.

(shrug) I always kind of thought Beth and Summer were more like Rick than Morty. Morty has his moments though. I think he has enough creativity and intelligence to more than get him by in life, but he also has the ability to stick up for himself when Rick goes too far, and that seems more like a Jerry quality. Morty and Jerry seem to just take the punches until they've had enough and eventually they let you know it.

I never realized how Beth could have ever loved Jerry until I saw Whirlydirly Conspiracy and Rick talked about how Jerry uses his weakness to be a manipulator and make people feel sorry for him. Then an instant later I realized how I can sometimes have this flaw when I am depressed about my own life.

I thought about that when they went to intergalactic couples therapy. Then I laughed my ass off when the therapist shouted "Oh God!! They're codependent!!" followed by much chaos ensuing. It kind of made me think "okay, I know people in my life I immensely value even though I think they're either plain and uninteresting or a bit dense and irritating," and that thought is usually followed up with "wow, am I really that much of a dick?"

Attach a message that says "we don't need your high definition piss jugs, thanks -- the management"

When a mommy fish loves a daddy fish....very very much...they sidle up next to each other and convulse rabidly, boffing like wild weasels, but weasels don't boff like that because they're vanilla...or something.

watch Kimmel's man show, first episode. Treasure trove of sexist comments. featuring him asking people to sign petition to "stop women's sufferage." when asked. "because the women are lazy."

Yeah but that's not a good example, because it's clearly satirical and the basis for the whole joke is a play on words.

When people argued with him in that show, he said "because the women are lazy." that's not a play on words, was it.

Oh, well no, you're right in that sense. It wouldn't be a play on words. I'm just trying to figure out if it's just satire and not him actually calling women lazy. I think they're making a joke on the meaning of the word "suffrage" really. But there are plenty other examples of Kimmel being a judgmental weasel. Like with the school shooting and health care thing. Apparently if we don't agree with him on that, we are all evil monsters with blood on our hands or something.

I don't trust that this bill will be effective in any of the ways it claims, and I am suspicious about the nature of the most recent amendments made. First thing I learned moving up to DC: The conversation is never actually about what it purports to be about, and the vast majority of our representatives don't actually read the bills put in front of them. I mean, no one will want to appear in dissent to any bill that is called something like "Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act" regardless of whether or not they read it, right? This kind of thing is pretty much tradecraft at this point, so just be careful and stay vigilant.

Please, pedes, look at this bill carefully and judge it in terms of unintended consequences. Some of it really does sound like an underhanded attempt at the government censoring speech and the internet.

They also have to frequently overcome the hurdle of maintaining canon as well as whatever rules they apply to the storyline and to the story universe. (I think they mentioned it being an issue in one of the Ricking Morty panels, and I can totally understand why; if you care about good storytelling it's going to be something that requires extra focus)
