No problem, but to reiterate, she can probably easily pass the PE. Going into PM for a contractor or developer with a PE would really set her apart in a good way. She could also attempt to PM at a structural firm.

Are there any job possibilities out there for the long term that don't require your professional exams finished?

It depends on what she wants to do. If she wants to stay in the structural field, technically, yes, but realistically, not really. I work for a structural firm. I am part of our team that reviews resumes, interviews candidates, and hires. It is unlikely that your gf will be able to maintain a competitive salary and/or be competitive in the structural engineering job market without at least her PE. If she was a good student at a good school, passing the PE will be no problem.

That said, she could transition into project management for a developer or contractor and won't need to get licensed at all. She also might actually make more money that way....

What does the budget mean for living in Illinois in the future? by [deleted] in illinois

[–]scriggities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, income taxes are now back at where they were 2 years ago. Rauner fucked the state and decided that playing political games with state finances was more important than the moral obligation of paying our bills. As long as the tax rate isn't fucked with to score political points again, taxes will not be going up again in 5 years.

The issue with that is that you can't make nearly the same money (in certain professional industries) anywhere but in Chicago. I switched jobs from a mid NW burb to a downtown firm and got a 47% raise for a more junior title. It has noting to do with "experiencing the city" and everything to do with making money. The simple truth is that Chicago is a very powerful economic engine. For many people, myself now included, the cons to living in the city far outweigh all this political nonsense.

Well, I ran out of battery power 15 miles from home in my Model S P85D yesterday. A few observations: by syncmaster213 in teslamotors

I had this happen to an AWD car I had. Got towed after an accident (not our fault) by a tow truck assigned by the other party's insurance company. Ruined our transmission. We had to fight a bit but we got a new transmission out of it.

I'll quote for you,

The ironic form of simile, used in sarcasm, and some forms of litotes can emphasize one's meaning by the deliberate use of language which states the opposite of the truth, denies the contrary of the truth, or drastically and obviously understates a factual connection.

But you're the boss, boss.

Guarantee Trump has no idea that the Gold Cup is even happening right now.

Illinois has budget after House votes to override Gov. Rauner's veto by PageSide84 in chicago

You realize that's exactly what Rauner said this week, right?

Literally told the legislature to ignore Wall St.

Spending is way down, lower than Rauner originally asked for. Stop with this nonsense about there being no change or reform, that's false. It's a lie. This is an actual compromise.

You're referring to the Rauner Defense Force. They're mad as hell and they know how to use the downvote button.

re·form

rəˈfôrm/

verb

  1. make changes in (something, typically a social, political, or economic institution or practice) in order to improve it.

The spending plan was changed (reduced) relative to historical trends and the originally proposed spending plan. This was done to improve the financial situation of the state. Taxes were raised (changed) in an attempt to close the deficit.

Whether you want to acknowledge it or not, this is reform. No, it isn't a massive, seismic shift in how the state functions financially but the people expecting that were being unrealistic. Change starts small.

There is reform attached (spending is lower than even Rainer asked for, before he moved the goal posts). Stop repeating Rauner PAC talking points. It isn't perfect but it's a lot better than anything we've had in the past 5 years. Sure there's more work to be done, this is a good start.

Edit: it's pretty odd that your entire posting history revolves around pushing a very specific narrative about a very specific issue. Did you join Reddit just to bitch about Illinois Democrats and cheer on Rauner?
