Tens of thousands of people every year are sent to jail based on the results of a $2 roadside drug test. Widespread evidence shows that these tests routinely produce false positives. Why are police departments and prosecutors still using them? by DoremusJessup in Foodforthought

it creates an effective "human resources" filter. those without enough resources to fight the injustice are punished. very few to none of the people involved see it this way, but it is the net effect of much of the unfair legal system in the US: filtering out and pushing down those not winning in the current "take from everybody else" system.

How many of you are holding back buying more Bitcoin because of the block size issue? by Neill_889 in btc

[–]jmdugan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually, I don't want to leave. I want to stay and make it work.

speaking out in /r/bitcoin gets my account banned

I actually went to the bitcoin developer conference to make a difference, talk to people. I actually met Greg and deeply regret not bringing all this up with him face to face. at the time the rotten politics were not clear to me. mostly the event was swarmed with corporate interests. after that I don't know what else to do.

we don't have a good way to do governance of technology enabled distributed collectives. (yet)

Not just holding back buying, but participating in any way. I don't ask to spend them, don't tell my friends about Bitcoin, I don't run clients anymore.

Until the block size issue is fixed I've completely left the community. Occasionally come back to check if sanity has been restored and blocks stream has finally been put in its correct, corrupt place.

how do I get full utf character support in xterm? by jmdugan in commandline

[–]jmdugan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried iterm, but it seems to change the prompt and change the command history and I didn't know what else. It also had a whole variety of command functions tied to things that seem to make no sense; the one I tried first ran a command and then ran every output of that command as I typed-in command, and it did it from the root of the file system. Weird. immediately deleted it. Maybe I have to try it again

Also, why are you using xterm under XQuartz rather than a native OS X terminal?

I haven't found a native app that is as fast or useful. the OSX gui is slower and doesn't work as well in other ways

Clinton’s credibility gap widens after FBI rebuke - "Want to know why two-thirds of Americans do not consider Hillary Clinton trustworthy? Re-watch pretty much any public comment she’s made about her email use over the past 16 months and then watch James Comey’s speech yesterday" by HelluvaNinjineer in politics

[–]jmdugan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CALLING IT A "CREDIBILITY GAP" IS OVER-GENEROUS

it implies that on the other side of that gap is credibility, that if we could just bridge a "gap" she would then be credible. This is no so - you fly out into the gap, and keep going, through the fog, and storms, and into the night - the other side isn't there, it's just gaping vacuum all the way down and for as far as you want to search. There is a land of lies she inhabits and nothing else on the other side.

"I, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and those who paid for me to be here today, accepting this great honor, we OWN YOU. We own everything. We own all the important land. We own and control the corporations. We’ve long since bought, and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls, we got the judges in our back pockets and we own all the big media companies, so we control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. We got you by the balls."

there are literally hundreds of statements she has made that are overt lies, proven so now by the FBI in the criminal investigation of her behavior. too bad they only listed 5 categories.

in any rational system this person would recuse herself in utter shame in ignominy immediately

Turbulence warning by seweso in btc

Turbulence??

no, it's pronounced "terrible user experience" when transaction processing doesn't work because all the blocks are full and there's no mechanism to process them quickly, payments or not because the bonehead selfish capitalists have created a fake scarcity to squeeze out profits in side-service companies.
