This has to be a new low for weekend teams, right? by Der-Kleine in WorldOfWarships

[–]brsmith77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol not even close.

Yesterday I had two DDs on our team announce they were leaving because "MM is crappy for DDs". They were our only DDs.

I had to cap and scout in a Edinburgh. Thank god for CSM-1 and CE!

Ah right, just checked the exchange rate on XE. Ouch!

Yeah in that case I would get your cousin to buy one from the US direct from Oculus and bring it over or ship it to you; even with shipping costs you should save big compared to that INR40k price tag.

Bizarre that they don't ship to India. That is a huge market!

It’s that time of year again, what is your biggest prediction for 2018? by Clongjax in AskReddit

Youtube will finally achieve it's dream of destroying all decent content creators channels and driving them to other platforms.

Looking forward to endless corporate approved, clickbaity list videos containing nothing but thinly veiled commercials masquerading as original content. Number 7 will SHOCK you!

Ouch.

Oculus reaffirms that they are NOT launching a Rift successor in 2018 by Heaney555 in oculus

I feel that's what VR needs to really explode; to be like in the movies when you put the headset on and are transported to another world.

Games like Lone Echo get so close to that even with the peripheral issue. Can't wait for HMDs to take that last little step.

I would really advise to get it through Amazon then you are covered if there are any problems.

The Oculus touch box is 53cm x 34cm x 13.5cm and is about 5kgs in weight.

The Rift is available on Amazon India it is currently INR39,713 and it states about 3-6 working days for delivery which is stated as costing INR3,699

Definitely get one mate. I absolutely love mine. The touch controls are really good and add a massive extra dimension to play. Games are pretty good for such a new platform and you will get a bunch free with the Rift itself, including the brilliant Robo Recall.

Apart from the freebies there is Lone Echo, Arizona Sunshine, Dead Effect 2, Killing Floor 2, Elite Dangerous, Doom VFR, From Other Suns, and loads more great titles out at the moment.

Also loads of existing PC games can be modded to work with VR. I have played Alien Isolation with Oculus and it is terrifyingly good.

What are your favorite conspiracy theories? by Jabba_the_cat in AskReddit

[–]brsmith77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have had similar thoughts. I mean; it was the 60s, the height of cold war paranoia. If they found any evidence of other life, regardless of how ancient and long dead it was, it would have been likely to be covered up IMO.

Whilst almost all of these sort of tales are very light on evidence etc. there does seem to be an awful lot of them and a lot of claims regarding UFOs made by astronauts, who are among the most credible kind of eye witness you could hope for.

I am tempted to believe that we are looking at a huge amount of purposeful disinformation concealing a kernel of truth...

What's on your Anti-Bucket List, the list of things you never want to do again? by BenMuthafuckinD1 in AskReddit

[–]brsmith77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did waaay too much Salvia once.

Anyone who has disrespected the Goddess like that will understand why I am not keen on repeating the experience.

Here is the Erowid list of effects, pretty much all of which I experienced, with the emphasis on the following:

  • powerful closed- and open-eye visuals
  • general change in consciousness (as with most psychoactives)
  • altered perceptions
  • sensation of physical push, pressure, or wind
  • sensation of entering or perceiving other dimensions, alternate realities
  • feeling of 'presence' or entity contact
  • overly-intense experiences
  • fear, terror and panic

What's that? Only 8 minutes you say? Doesn't sound too bad does it?

Yeah, about that....it also screws with your perception of time. 8 minutes felt like longer...a lot longer.

Supposing for a minute it is true, then maybe they are not hostile in a bellicose sense, but they just don't want us interfering in whatever they are doing.

The problem I always had with this theory is the structures. If they were there then surely some amateur moon watcher with a telescope would have seen something by now ?

What movie traumatized you the most as a kid? by kelCYnator in AskReddit

[–]brsmith77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ET.

The scene with the garden shed scared hell out of me. The concept of Aliens was new to me, and I found the whole way it was shot with the smoke and light very creepy and disconcerting.

Far worse, however, was the scene with the g-men raiding the house, all space suited up. Looking back with adult faculties it is interesting that the things humans do scared me more than that which is literally Alien.

I wonder if that was Spielberg's intention?

Seems reasonable; anger issues and an obsessive unwillingness to let the slightest little issue go without a huge fuss. Adding a shotgun into that equation would not be a good idea.

That NASA did land on the moon, but what they found was so troubling that they faked/heavily edited the footage.

I remember reading about these theories in UFO magazines in the late 90s. The main one seems to be that there were structures/buildings on the moon that were quite clearly visible as well as a hostile Alien presence.

Alleged transcripts of an unreleased conversation between Apollo 11 and Houston mention "other spaceships lined up in the other side of the crater" and that "They’ve landed there. There they are and they’re watching us".

Also, Armstrong apparently told a professor at NASA that "It was incredible … of course, we had always known there was a possibility … the fact is, we were warned off. There was never any questions then of a space station or a moon city".

This site lays out the basics of what I read and have been hearing repeated for years.

At the end of the day it is all highly dubious and based on hearsay but it has always intrigued me.

Well, even at c it would take 4 years to get to the nearest star so perhaps a bit faster?

For reference, the top speed of the Enterprise D was 2017.93 times the speed of light or Warp 9.6, although it could only maintain this speed for 12 hours.

It's maximum sustainable cruising speed was 1640.63 times c or Warp 9.2. It could get you to Alpha Centauri in 1 day without breaking a sweat.

Yes, I am a gigantic nerd.
