Hypercube was awesome! First and last were my favorites. Nice work on all of them.

Would I be able to make neural art using the new Windows 10 feature "Bash on Ubuntu on Windows"? by fatdonuthole in deepdream

[–]SwoosHkiD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched some of the video. Seeing how the shell environment operated on the C: drive and executes all sorts of apt-get commands, I'm fairly optimistic that you could at least get neural-style working in CPU mode.

Maybe there are some hurdles to installing Torch that you can't see until you try it, but I think it's worth trying! You might run into some path issues if you are not careful...Looks worth giving it a shot imo.

Edit: If you have never installed it on Linux, it would be worth at least getting it working once on a vmware ubuntu first and learning the process where tutorials will be 1:1, and then put your brain to making it work on windows/ubuntu shell.

I need a PC software that I can seed images into as a style reference (like dreamscope does). Any recommendations? by BeLikeOtters in deepdream

I don't think any such desktop apps exists. Hopefully someone creates something someday... I know someone here had come up with a UI for Neural-style, but it didn't save you from having to install it and get it working separately first. Your best bet is probably to sign up for the iOS premium service from Dreamscopeapp.

Sincerely appreciate the info. I stand corrected. Houdini really is cutting edge. I read somewhere SideFX calls it "swirly kernel".

Grad background ok until final render why? help/ by CouncilGritter in Cinema4D

[–]SwoosHkiD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pulled the levels up on these to see the banding. They both look bad at these narrow levels, the render on the right still looks better than the preview render, but I can't see this as an issue on most people's monitor. It's mostly hidden unless you photoshop it. OP must have an over-bright monitor? Also the comments above about using the dithering settings or higher color depth are the right answers, I just don't understand how OP is seeing this on their monitor.

The image is photoshopped. I didn't add any textures external to the result, but I did add sharpening and layer blending techniques to make the color pop.

This render has a lot of good things going for it! Still, I have to insist the pile should have been a tad more chaotic. Edit: I like the realism of the front three and the one that rolls over the top.

Here's a cute variation on this idea. Make about 5 or 6 baby teapots swimming behind "momma".

Getting color noise - how do I minimize it? by RMCPhoto in deepdream

[–]SwoosHkiD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey RMC I found a pretty good way to eliminate color noise without losing any details or getting any other weird side effects in photoshop. Just create a blurry duplicate layer of your image and set the transfer mode to "color" and it will eliminate the color noise. I don't know the equivalent for the "color" transfer mode in gimp, but I bet there is one. Here's a gallery with an example http://imgur.com/a/dyF3S

Some Garbage I Made Into A "Short Film" [Octane + Photoshop] by HONEST_ABE_APPROVES in Cinema4D

[–]SwoosHkiD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm not really poking fun or saying you need comment well-wishers, just an observation. I would use a different tack like "Render I made from several dailies" or "Short Film" I strung together from several small projects.

Labeling your work as "garbage" is usually bad for karma, but good for people in the comment area pointing out that it's not garbage.
