I disagree. Common core needs to go. The teacher's union protects teachers and administrators, not the student.

The whole education system has been messed up since the Dept of Education was created in 1979. Common Core prevents private schools from competing with public schools. This creates, in essence, a "school monopoly" meaning public schools don't have to compete with private schools, and drives the cost of private schools up. By having more private schools, the "supply" of private schools goes up, driving the cost down. By having more schools competing with public schools, public schools are forced to keep up (with a higher standard of education) inorder to keep school attendance high.

States should decide the school curriculum, and that way schools compete with each other to be the best schools. Teachers will be pressured to provide high quality education, because if they don't parents will have the freedom to choose alternative schools for their children.
