I got queer-bashed by five or six guys on a bus once years ago; it was in the bus station, so the police were called without my intervention.

They told me it was my fault for wearing make-up and wouldn't take my name or details, and wouldn't tell me their numbers. They also tried to make out like I was just as at fault because I'd tried to fight back, had torn some buttons off of one of their shirts and one of my attacks cut his hand on a safety pin in my jacket. They just made me get back on the bus and go home.

Probably wouldn't bother calling them if it happened again based on that, if I'd had much inclination to in the first place.

White vegan whitesplains to black vegan: you don't understand racism by MrGrumpet in leftwithsharpedge

It's probably greener than nitrate fertiliser.

More generally though I think it's an odd line of argument. Soil generally contains a pretty fair amount of faeces. There are microscopic creatures shitting on our skin. There are particles of human suit suspended in the air. We literally live on, eat and breathe shit all the time.

Does anyone look at Trump as being the same as Brexit? by thevirtualme in unitedkingdom

[–]Quietuus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a new thing at all: if you look at the early theoretical literature of fascism and the movements that directly prefigure it, particularly futurism, you'll see these ideas laid down a century ago. Vladimir Markov defined the goal of futurist literature as creating a language "that is, so to speak, personal, with words having no definite meaning, but affecting the emotions directly". The notion that reason is dangerous, that academia is infected with poisonous foreign ideology and so on is a cornerstone of fascist discourse. Trump certainly embodies a peculiarly US form of populist quasi-fascism.

It's a meme, also folks should be able to discern what particular sort of vegan i'm referring to, given the context. Vegan culture is rife with this sort of shit and this sort of person.

Taken back/non-racist symbols by T1KW1D in Norse

[–]Quietuus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely a region/country thing. Personally, I'd be more likely to associate the valknut than thor's hammer with white supremacy. I'm sure there's a UK neo-nazi group that uses it, in the context of replacing the triskele in the Combat 18 logo.

The important thing to remember is that a lot of this is contextual; how the symbols are presented has an enormous bearing on how they're read. Any angular symbol can be put in a white circle on a red background and give off an aura of fascism.

Thank you! I've done some experimenting myself and felt pens seems to be the best way to colour them; I print the colouring books with a blank sheet seperating the artwork to act as a blotter to better facilitate that sort of thing.

The book can currently be purchased directly here:

It should be hitting Amazon in a few weeks, give or take. I also made a trailer for the book, showing off some more images, here:

Reddit doesn't love nuclear power because it's forward thinking, radical and progressive. by Quietuus in Negareddit

[–]Quietuus[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I mean, what is the pro nuclear industry?

The main nuclear lobbying and advertising agency in the US is the NEI (Nuclear Energy Institute), whose corporate members include Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Rio Tinto, 3M, Westinghouse, Honeywell, General Atomics, the Japanese Atomic Energy Agency, Rolls-Royce, ConverDyn and many others. This page details some of their lobbying and PR activities. The promotion of nuclear power specifically at the expense of renewables is also a policy area promoted by various major right wing think-tanks including the American Enterprise Institute, the American Legislative Exchange Council and others. In Europe lobbying is co-ordinated through the European Nuclear Society, representing corporate members including EDF, General Electric, Westinghouse, NRG and E.ON. The NEI at least also coordinates with lobbying groups representing the defence industry via the National Defence Industrial Association; Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics particularly have a lot of interests in US nuclear weapons production, as do a range of other companies that do contract work, particularly Bechtel and Booz Allen Hamilton. Globally, other major corporations with interests in the nuclear energy sector include BHP Billiton, Siemens, Skoda, Kepco and many others, as well as more 'obvious' nuclear companies like Rosatom and Urenco. Many major US research universities also have strong links with the nuclear sector.
