The main nuclear lobbying and advertising agency in the US is the NEI (Nuclear Energy Institute), whose corporate members include Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Rio Tinto, 3M, Westinghouse, Honeywell, General Atomics, the Japanese Atomic Energy Agency, Rolls-Royce, ConverDyn and many others. This page details some of their lobbying and PR activities. The promotion of nuclear power specifically at the expense of renewables is also a policy area promoted by various major right wing think-tanks including the American Enterprise Institute, the American Legislative Exchange Council and others. In Europe lobbying is co-ordinated through the European Nuclear Society, representing corporate members including EDF, General Electric, Westinghouse, NRG and E.ON. The NEI at least also coordinates with lobbying groups representing the defence industry via the National Defence Industrial Association; Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics particularly have a lot of interests in US nuclear weapons production, as do a range of other companies that do contract work, particularly Bechtel and Booz Allen Hamilton. Globally, other major corporations with interests in the nuclear energy sector include BHP Billiton, Siemens, Skoda, Kepco and many others, as well as more 'obvious' nuclear companies like Rosatom and Urenco. Many major US research universities also have strong links with the nuclear sector.
