Welcome to the Simple Questions thread, for questions that don't need their own thread. We still recommend you use the search, FAQ/Wiki on the sidebar, or even a Bing search before asking. Also please post tech support related questions on r/techsupport.
Some examples of questions to ask:
Is this super cheap Windows key legitimate? (probably not)
How can I get the 1909 update?
Can you recommend a program to play music?
How do I get back to the old Sound Control Panel?
Sorting by New is recommend and is the default.

Not referring to automatic maximizing (dragging, snapping), but all maximizing. If anyone knows of a way to completely disable the ability to maximize any window in Windows I would be very grateful.
For the inquisitive: I got some very high res screens and I never maximize anything intentionally.
Hi, I've set up and built my PC early this November and installed windows 10 and used a product key from Azure portal. Only today I downloaded Malwarebytes and checked to see if windows defender was running, and sure enough I couldn't find it anywhere under windows security settings.
I'm starting to think windows might have been installed incorrectly and am wondering if it's fine to keep running a pc like this as long as I get a third party anti-virus installed instead.
here's how it looks like under windows security:

I've hit a catch-22 where the PC won't recognize my data without reformatting the drive, which would erase all my data.
Full disclosure: I'm a recent, resistant convert to W10 from 7. Forgive me. I'm still nostalgic for the straightforwardness of DOS. I'm sure all this is in service of some greater purpose. But what are we the consumer supposed to do with our old data?
Okay, so some background. I've had this PC for only a couple years, pre-built from one of those companies that prebuilds for you (can't remember name, dad suggested it). For note, here are the specs:
MSI X99S SLI Krait Edition motherboard
i7-5820K @ 3.30GHz 6 core
16GB Ram
GTX 970
From what I remember, it ran decent enough in the beginning but I vaguely recall some complaints. Still as time has gone it's gone down hill and it's incredibly sluggish. Over the past couple of months, I've been researching guide after guide of tweaks and addressing a disk usage problem (more below) and make things faster, and while I've had some improvement, overall it's still slow. It boots up slow, transfers data slow, updates slow. I can still play most games with good framerate, although some stutter quite a bit.
I've watched my temps under load, nothing ever too hot for recommended. I've watched the usage in task manager and resource monitor, and CPU has never been high. RAM has hit 100% but it's typically when something like a game or program is memory leaking hardcore.
