CLASS FILLED
SQUARE C U R V E S??? Huh? Exactly what does that mean?? Author of Vivacious Curvy Quilts, Dianne Hire will teach you in this Friday class to create easy, template fee, intuitively designed squares into a motion filled wall hanging that is fast to assemble and in three optional designs: broken circles, randomly curved squares, or meandering, dancing curves. If you use basic bold brights in nearly solid fabrics, the quilt is exceptional. By the end of the day you may have your Curvaceous squares completely sewn together and ready to quilt.

Jean Coleman’s objective in teaching this Friday class is for you to learn the technique to achieve this kaleidoscope effect. She plans to teach a block with 4 repeats. You will probably end up with 16 or 20 blocks. What you do with these blocks is up to you. You could make them into place mats, a table runner, a lap quilt, a baby quilt, or a throw. If you like what you have and want to make it into something large, add borders or go back to the store where you purchased the fabric and buy more to make more blocks. A different horizontal cut from the same fabric will yield an entirely different set of blocks. Learn more about Jean in our blog interview.

Confident Beginner/Intermediate
In this 2-day workshop on Saturday & Sunday, Kathy Groves will teach you the Compass Rose Table Runner, a pattern by Judy Niemeyer from her company, Quiltworx. It is the central
pattern for many of Judy’s larger quilts and thus is a great introduction to the foundation paper piecing technique. This class is appropriate for confident beginners as well as experienced quilt makers. You may not complete the entire table runner – but you should have sufficient time to make 1 or more complete blocks. Once the blocks are complete – joining them is as straightforward as joining 9 patch blocks.
The pattern contains enough papers to make two 22″ x 69″ Table Runners (a total of 8 Rose blocks). If you prefer, instead of sewing them in a table runner design – these blocks can be stacked and made into a beautiful wall hanging. If you want to make a larger quilt – replacement packs are available that include only extra papers so you can easily make more blocks!
This class will introduce you to the Quiltworx techniques which make paper piecing a favorite technique for many quilt makers. From cutting and organizing to finishing your quilt, Judy’s techniques make it very manageable… and fun! Don’t be surprised if you are planning your next “Judy Quilt” before you finish this one! Visit Kathy at Bobkat Quilts and learn more about her in our recent blog interview.
