What is a ‘Query’?
Queries are search strings which tell the Brandwatch Analytics platform which data you wish to collect from our millions of online sources. It’s like a Google search, but much more refined.
You can build Queries using the Query Wizard, by answering a few simple questions, or the Query Editor, by combining search terms and Boolean operators (such as AND or OR).

What is a ‘mention’?
A mention is a single piece of content that matches one of your Queries, collected from our millions of online sources.
Mentions are collected from social network posts (including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Google+), blog posts, news articles, forum threads, online reviews or any other type of content from a webpage.

How many mentions will I need?
How many mentions you need will depend on the size of your brand and what you plan to track. For example, large global brands or broad market research Queries are likely to need at least a million mentions per month, whereas smaller businesses are more likely to need 10-20k.
Remember that you’ll likely want to track both your brand and competitors, as well as broader topics relating to your industry. If you’re unsure, just get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss your needs.

What happens if I exceed my mentions limit?
We will notify you via email when you are approaching your mention limit. Once you hit your limit, you will be unable to receive additional data in that month unless you upgrade your plan or purchase additional mentions as a bolt-on.
