Jamie Raskin is giving a barnstorming, tour de force speech on American democracy and constitutional reform. Incredibly impressive, and very stirring— even for this non citizen. Though still a *little* odd that Israel or Israeli-Palestinian conflict hasn’t yet figured #jstreet22

#Media too often distorts by fixating on people who say & do crazy things. It amplifies those who preach & practice violence. They are few but loud. The volume builds their power. If you want a fuller picture from the ground (& to amplify the good), check this out...

‘Events are radicalising young Israelis & Palestinians. Disrupting those trends should be overarching goal for all who care about peace.’ Excellent piece John. Important work: “Israelis & Palestinians coming together & confronting this drive to see each other as enemies.”

Well said “the November election was a wake-up call to the sort of politics now taking root among [Israel’s] youngest voters”, mirrored across the Green Line. Vacuums are filled by violence & the world is entirely AWOL, your MEPPA, an honorable, if small, exception

This is required reading for UK foreign policy community, with global problems now “crashing into front rooms” & new definitions— but esp new (and renewing old) institutions— required. has been a world leader at that in past. And needs to think that way again

A big thank you to and for hosting the ALLMEP team, and for their continued vital support of Israeli/Palestinian peacebuilders. In this moment where their work— and that support— has perhaps never been more necessary

Oh how I wish ’s warnings about post-truth & Russia’s rebooting of European wars of territorial conquest were “outdated” & “fighting old battles.” Odd review that seems to misunderstand series’ point. And maybe even history’s wider utility

Many Pal friends think Israeli journos mocked in Qatar is a small victory after so many losses. I get why. But it’s not. It’s heard (rightly or wrongly) not as critique of occupation, but of Jewish belonging in MENA. Which is zero-sum fuel of v worst forces in Israeli politics

Fantastic reporting by , on story that 280 characters cannot do justice to. But shows that cooperation among enemies is not only possible but *necessary* to solve I/P’s problems. And space for that activity must be grown, rather than shrunk

Atwan has defended/rationalised violence against civilians many times now. Over decades. Dehumanising *both* Israelis & Palestinians in media happens way too often. & we’re in midst of I/P crisis that’ll likely get worse, as, sadly will that tendency, which needs to be called out

The administration made early missteps on the JCPOA, but this state of affairs is now really the fault of an Iran that balked at re-entering the deal, ramped up uranium enrichment to 60%, sold drones to Russia and started shooting loads of innocent people.

Israeli officials praising PA for its role in resolving this peacefully. Per IDF official, PA General Intelligence negotiated w gunmen in Jenin Refugee Camp. Israel didn't give anything in return. If talks failed IDF "was ready to go into camp full force..would've been v violent"

The last 24 hours of violence, and the weeks of escalation that led up to it, have followed a tragic pattern that cannot go unchecked. Our hearts are broken for all those impacted by this. The attacks in Jerusalem this morning. The IDF raids in Nablus. The abduction in Jenin.

This is horrific. Druze 12th grader went to WB to get car fixed & seriously injured in accident. PIJ abduct him while on life support— kill him in process— & hold body for ransom. Now reports of Druze marching to Jenin, & yet another front in unfolding 2022 I/P disaster opens 😞

As further update: The boy whose body kidnapped was 12th grade student who went to get car repaired in WB. The 16yo killed in Nablus follows a 17yo killed in Jenin day before. The victim of todays bus bombing was 16yo yeshiva student. Children. Being fed into a meat grinder

What we *need* is policy and action that puts conflict resolution as its core organising principle. What we have, increasingly, appears to be the precise opposite.

1/2 Appalled by news that ISF demolished the donor funded Sfai school in Masafer Yatta in occupied Palestinian territory, one day after a diplomatic visit by several EU 🇪🇺member states.  Palestinian children’s right to education must be respected.

Thinking of friends & colleagues in Jerusalem. Horrible scenes we haven’t seen for years, & yet more senseless loss of life. 2022 was already most violent year since 2nd Intifada. Now, as it comes to close, we see return of bombs on buses, one of era’s most horrific legacies 😞
