MATANAO, Davao del Sur, Nov. 6 (PIA) – The 210 families in the hilly barangay of Kibao in Matanao, Davao del Sur are needing potable water after an orange colored water came out from the households’ hosepipes following the recent earthquakes that destroyed the village’s water source.

Bernadette Baldevia, Matanao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management officer, said that the series of quakes severely damaged the source of water, leaving the residents with no clean water to use and drink.

DAVAO CITY, Nov. 6 PIA) -The vice chair of the response cluster of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council XI (RDRRMC XI) revealed that all evacuation camps in Davao Region have received relief goods already even as media reports would show there were still earthquake evacuees in Magsaysay, Davao del Sur who asked for food, water and tarpaulins.

The DOH Centers for Health Development in Region X (Northern Mindanao), XI (Davao), and XII (SOCCSKSARGEN) reported that a total of seventy-three (73) health facilities were affected by the series of earthquakes that had recently hit Mindanao. Of these, sixty-six (66) were partially damaged and seven (7) health facilities were totally damaged.

Despite the damages, the affected health facilities resumed operations and have set up temporary facilities for consultation areas, operating rooms, and delivery rooms to accommodate the surge of patients and casualties.

On 1 September 2019, Hurricane Dorian hit Northern Bahamas with winds of up to 185 mph (298 km/h) reaching Category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale and equalling the highest ever recorded at landfall. The storm battered Abaco Island and Grand Bahama for almost two days in what has been described as a stationary hurricane.

During my first visit to Venezuela, I have seen how ordinary women, men and children face overwhelming challenges every day to survive. Millions cannot afford the bare minimum of food, water, and health care. The situation continues to deteriorate.

The vast majority of Venezuelans have been affected by the political and economic crisis in what was once Latin America’s wealthiest nation. A huge economic contraction fueled by hyperinflation has resulted in a dire situation for ordinary people all across the country.

OUAGADOUGOU, Nov 6 2019 (IPS) - Ibrahim Harouna and his neighbours sit under a tree at his uncle’s house, playing chess and chatting amid the simmering heat of Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso.

This is how he has been spending most of his time in the year and a half since he lost his job. Harouna worked as farm labourer. But the seasonal small-scale farmer he worked for in northern Burkina Faso let him and two other workers go because their services were no longer needed amid dwindling harvests.

• UNICEF partners reported that water shortages caused by the damage done to the Alok water pumping station in Alok village, Ras Al Ain subdistrict, which was allegedly hit during the ongoing hostilities, continues to affect some 400,000 people. Local sources are reporting that the price of bottled water has more than doubled due to the increased demand, reaching 200 to 250 SYP (0.39 - 0.49 USD) per 1.5 liters.
