• An estimated 177,174 children with life threatening severe acute malnutrition (SAM) were treated from January to October 2018. The children reached represent 102 per cent of the overall UNICEF 2018 planning target of 173,000 SAM children.
• A UNICEF-supported inter-agency assessment found 102 children, all boys, reported to be associated with the Puntland forces in Tukaraq military base, in need of further screening and separation from the military.

Summary
Geneva, Mauritania – Areas of Mauritania that were under the threat of anti-personnel mines for forty years are now deemed safe. “I am extremely honoured to declare that after four decades since these weapons were laid and nearly two decades of clearance, Mauritania is free of all known mined zones. This makes us the 31st State Party to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention to declare such feat,” said Mr. Alioune Ould Menane, Coordinator of Mauritania’s humanitarian mine clearance programme for development (pndhd).

• In October in Al-Hassakeh governorate in Syria, almost 70,000 school children (70 per cent of all children attending Ministry of Education schools) were negatively impacted by a local authority decision to ban transportation of children to schools to attend the nationally accredited curriculum. UNICEF and partners are advocating with the local authorities to resolve the issue.

Introduction
The Civilian Impact Monitoring Project (CIMP) is a monitoring mechanism for real-time collection, analysis and dissemination of data on the civilian impact from armed violence in Yemen, with the purpose of informing and complementing protection programming.
CIMP is a service under the Protection Cluster Yemen and monitor civilian impact from armed violence countrywide, divided into 5 hubs; Al-Hudaydah,Sa’ada,Sana’a,Aden and Ibb.
In Syria, the humanitarian crisis is in its eight year. In 2018 UNHCR partners with national and international actors are responding to immediate and urgent needs of internally displaced, returnees and host communities, while mitigating risks and strengthening resilience.

The success of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (APMBC) in protecting lives and limbs is undeniable.
Twenty-one years after adoption, countless lives have been saved, and the goal of a mine-free world is within reach.
Thankfully, we no longer live in a world where 20,000 people, mostly civilians are killed or mutilated, by mines each year.

On behalf of the Afghan delegation, I am honoured to present Afghanistan’s achievements and challenges in fulfilling its commitments under Article Five of the Convention.
Afghanistan remains one of the most heavily contaminated countries in the world. 3,451 minefields, covering 687 square kilometres remain contaminated and continue to affect 1,506 communities, 254 districts, in 33 out of 34 provinces of the country.
Situation Overview
Two tropical storms and sustained heavy rainfall during July, August and September 2018 have affected the entire country, including an estimated 2,400 villages and 132,000 households. 3,616 households have been evacuated, and 55 people reportedly died. Approximately 150 km of national and provincial roads, as well as 133 km of district and 350 km of rural roads and 47 bridges have been damaged.
Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — As many as 2,000 people were killed by post-war landmines between 2010 and 2014, while an estimated 6.1 million hectares accounting for more than 21 per cent of Việt Nam’s land remains contaminated with unexploded ordnance (UXO).
This information was released by Đặng Văn Đồng, deputy director of Việt Nam National Mine Action Centre (VNMAC) under the Ministry of National Defence, at a Friday conference on promoting international partnerships and supporting victims of UXO and Agent Orange (dioxin) in Việt Nam.

The SMM recorded ceasefire violations near the Stanytsia Luhanska and Zolote disengagement areas.
