Having watched Toy Story 3 recently, I’ve come to the conclusion that currently, animated films are the most intelligent and interesting films being made…It’s the best movie I’ve seen in a theatre this year, and yes, it is better than Avatar…
The movie is aimed at young adults who were kids when Toy Story was released 15 years ago…The theme of growing up and transitioning into the adult world is one that everybody who saw the original has gone through or is going through…Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, John Ratzenberger, Joan Cusack and Don Rickles return for a third outing as the voices of the beloved toys…Lee Unkrich, a co-director on Toy Story 2 and Finding Nemo steers the ship in the third installment, while Michael Arndt pens the action..Even though this is no.3, it’s the first time Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the toys have their adventures in Digital 3D…
As their owner Andy prepares to leave for college, his toy friends come face to face with the fact that they are soon going to become obsolete in their owner’s life (a notion maybe worse than death?) when they find themselves in daycare where they have to deal with not-so-nice toy residents…It’s all for one and one for all as they plan their escape from the clutches of Barbie’s suitor Ken, a thespian hedgehog named Mr. Pricklepants and a pink, strawberry-smelling teddy bear called Lots-O-Huggin’ Bear…Throughout the movie as the toys face challenges, the two main figurines Woody and Buzz remain the model of human morality and potential that parents hope to teach and instill in their children…
The movie starts off a wee bit slowly but picks up when the toys reach Sunnyside (daycare centre)…The introduction is a story Andy imagined when he was playing with the toys as a child (in my opinion, could be deleted from the movie)…The animation is Pixar’s most visually impressive to date, not just in the character detail and movements, but the number of locations they cover and the number of objects filling the frame…
Without doubt, Toy Story 3 is one of the best films made this year…Not only is the 3D animation fabulous, the movie is also humane and challenging – qualities that are missing in most live action releases this year… Unlike Raavan which made the audience only howl, this film manages to make children laugh and adults cry at the same time…The voice talent delivers each line with precision and subtlety making the animated characters come to life on screen…
What makes the movie really magical is not just the 3D animation and it’s intelligence, but also the multiple love stories incorporated into the story line…There’s the kind of love shared by Mr. Potato Head and his wife, Buzz and Jessie, and Barbie and Ken and also the kind of love celebrated and lost amongst family and friends…
Go see Toy Story 3 with your family – it’s worth the money and effort…
