This cute dog was amoung us when we celebrated summer solstice last week at Prafandaz in Leysin, Switserland.
It was a happy event with people from all over the world. He quietly observed us and his all knowing attitude really made him stand out from the crowd : )

The summer solstice occurs during a hemisphere's summer. This is the northern solstice in the northern hemisphere and the southern solstice in the southern hemisphere. Depending on the shift of the calendar, the summer solstice occurs some time between June 20 and June 22

The Summer Solstice was one of eight sacred Celtic days where the Celts would take time to celebrate through a variety of customs. They used ‘Natural Time’ taking their lead from the Solstices and Equinoxes to determine the seasons. This is in contrast to the Gregorian calendar that has been adopted today.

It's Officially Summer! Wake Up!

The beginning of summer, or summer solstice as astronomers and meteorologist call it, occurs today, now, at 6:34pm EDT sharp.

On the day of the summer solstice, the north pole is at its maximum tilt toward the sun, and the sun reaches its highest point in the sky all year, causing more light to reach our planet.

For people in the northern hemisphere, June 20 will be the longest day and shortest night of the year, with exactly 15 hours, 5 minutes and 40 seconds of daylight.

For people in the southern hemisphere, Monday will be their winter solstice, so it will be the shortest day and longest night of the year, the exact opposite of what's occurring in the northern hemisphere.
