Flight VA243 - Horizons 3e & Azerspace-2/Intelsat 38 Launch Sequence
Arianespace has successfully launched two communications satellites: Horizons 3e for Intelsat and SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation, and Azerspace-2/Intelsat 38 for Azercosmos and Intelsat.
The launch took place on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 19:38 pm (local time) from the Guiana Space Center (CSG), Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana (South America).
This was Arianespace’s sixth mission of the year, as well as the 100th mission by the Ariane 5 heavy launcher. In 22 years of operations, Ariane 5 has orbited a total of 207 satellites.

Former ‘Miss Baghdad’ Shot Dead as She Drove Through Iraqi Capital in Latest of Series of Attacks on Women.
Iraqi social media star and model Tara Fares has been shot dead in Baghdad, security officials confirmed to CNN.
The death of Fares and other recent killings prompted Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to order an investigation on Friday.
The former Miss Baghdad, and first runner-up for Miss Iraq, was killed on Thursday after gunmen opened fire on her in the capital’s Camp Sarah neighborhood, according to a statement by Iraq’s Interior Ministry, which is investigating the incident.
Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Saad Maan told an Iraqi TV station that two motorcyclists shot Fares while she was inside a vehicle.
The 22-year-old, a Christian whose father was Iraqi and mother Lebanese, was living in Erbil, but visited the capital occasionally. She was famous for her bold clothing and posts on social media.
A black-and-white photo showing Fares pouting was shared with her nearly 3 million Instagram followers shortly after her death, along with the comment: “In a treacherous and cowardly incident, Tara Fares Chamoun, is with God. We asked God to accept her with His great mercy.”

Palmdale Crash Leaves 2 Women Dead, Prompts Partial Closure of 14 Freeway.
icials partially shut down the 14 Freeway on Saturday after an early morning crash involving a construction truck left two women in their 60s dead, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol received a call about an incident on the northbound side of the highway near Palmdale Boulevard just after 5 a.m.
A Toyota Highlander had been involved in a minor, rear-end crash with another vehicle, the agency said.
Just as the two parties were proceeding to exchange information, the driver of the Toyota—for unclear reasons—sped off and crashed about half a mile away into the back of an attenuator truck within a closed construction zone on the right shoulder of the freeway, according to officials.
Attenuators are designed to absorb force during crashes. Still, authorities believed the impact killed the driver, a 60-year-old woman from Antelope Valley, and her passenger, a 68-year-old woman from the Philippines.

2018 Arctic Sea Ice Ties for Sixth Lowest Minimum | NASA
Arctic sea ice reached its annual minimum extent Sept. 19, and then again on Sept. 23, 2018. NASA works with the National Snow and Ice Data Center to track sea ice in the Arctic as it grows to a maximum extent through the winter and shrinks back to to its minimum extent in September. This year's minimum sea ice extent reached 1.77 million square miles—tied as the sixth lowest sea ice minimum since consistent satellite records began.
