#HuaweiTechnologies #Australia communications director Jeremy Mitchell said he and the Chinese #telco's local chairman, John Lord, met with Mr #PeterDutton - who was Immigration Minister at the time - at the #Brisbane Commonwealth Parliamentary Offices in July to discuss the rollout of the fast #5G mobile network in Australia. Mr Mitchell claims that during the meeting Mr Dutton expressed frustration that #US #telecommunications manufacturing companies were not keeping pace with their Chinese counterparts such as #Huawei and #ZTE. 'The Americans have dropped the ball,' Mr Dutton said, according to Mr Mitchell.
The US and #NewZealand have also blocked Huawei from supplying equipment to critical 5G telecommunications infrastructure. Tensions between #China and the #FiveEyes nations intensified after the arrest of Huawei’s global CFO Sabrina #MengWanzhou last week by Canadian authorities over allegations she violated US sanctions against Iran.
