Grand Canyon and Milky Way

A night view looking east toward the dawn. I have a few places on the south rim that I like to go for views of the Milky Way to photograph. A point that can have 300 people at sunset has none at 0400. I stand and watch the sky in awe as I make images.

Here is a view of a tree and rocks I have photographed several times on different trips.

Nolan River Bluff and Milky Way

I went to the Nolan River over the weekend to catch the Milky Way in the dark #TexasNightSky since it was around the new moon.

Everything has greened up since my last chance to be here in February. Even the grass is knee high and I know my next trip down will likely be chest high.

Getting to the rivers edge in the dark and hearing it bubble past is always something I enjoy. Then wading down the river in the dark, feeling the current pulling past my legs as I make my way to spot to photograph from.

This time I worked a dry ledge and tried to go for similar compositions to what I found two months ago. Look back in this Collection and my Texas Landscape Collection to see them.

Here I picked up the stars, river and bluff behind me using my fisheye lens.

The #fisheye lens is a speciality lens that may, or may not be useful to you. The fish eye #lens isn't for everyone, so before you go and spend your hard earned money on one this is one clip you need to watch.

Twilight Blues on the Nolan River

A few weekends ago I went to the Nolan River in hopes of Milky Way images, but the clear skies in Fort Worth turned to fog along the river. I only got a few star images. As the light started to come up the nearby town was lighting up the fog and I got a few interesting images of the blue hour. Here is looking up at the bluff behind me and the river in front of me.

If you check out my last post you may notice the same trees are in both images. This shows the difference between a 15mm lens and fisheye. It is a huge difference.
