Pudong at night
The Bladerunner-esque skyline of Shanghai's Pudong business district is one of those cliches you can't resist. It is also an excellent place to learn the virtue of patience.
I shot this on a bitterly cold October evening from the base of the 'Monument to the People's Heroes' at the northern end of Shanghai's historic Bund area. Making matters just that little bit more challenging, the Huangpu river is an active commercial waterway, which means every few minutes I had to wait for yet another large, dark, featureless ship to pass by before I could take my next shot. I was flanked by at least a dozen other photographers, each patiently snapping away long exposures and, like me, testing the strength of their relationships with their hapless, shivering better halves.
Shot on a Canon 5D Mark II with a 24-105mm f/4 L lens at 24mm, f/22, 30s, ISO200
