This is the main square of Piran, a lovely town on the Adriatic coast of Slovenia. Piran was part of the Venetian Republic for many centuries and it still has a very Italian feeling. The bell tower in the distance is a smaller version of the bell tower in Venice. The building on the left is city hall which was built when Piran was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire so it has more of a central European style. I like the leading lines of this image which draw your eye towards the bell tower.

"I love being photobombed by Volkswagen Bugs in Barrio Logan!"

Over the last couple years I have been doing a mini-project of photographing historic neon signs around various neighborhoods in San Diego. The newest neon sign addition is actually in San Diego’s oldest neighborhood, Barrio Logan.

I have tried in the past to get a decent composition of the sign at night, but the only composition that would work would be for me to stand in the middle of the street. I love my Canon DSLR, but I love my body even more and I would like to keep both fully intact.

The other night I headed down to Barrio Logan to try one more time, but I wasn’t happy with my compositions. I was about to pack up my equipment when these classic Volkswagen Beetles (Bug) sped across my frame.
