Red top

I'm not sure what kind of mushroom this is... but I found it in the Canaan Valley Wildlife Refuge off of Freeland Rd. I ran out of waterfalls to shoot because the streams are too full of water... so went searching for other subjects. This one did very nicely... and I'm glad I kept my macro lens in my bag on this adventure.

Big Run Falls

I made my first solo excursion to Big Run Falls in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia. The forest road to get to this waterfall gets a little dicy for the last 0.7 miles or so and I was very thankful to be driving an FJ Cruiser:) This is also the highest flow I've personally experienced at this waterfall. Unfortunately, the water was high enough (and I'd left my "Stream Trekkers" in the car) that I didn't dare venture how for a better angle. However, I like the little swirl in the bottom right corner. I hope everyone is doing well. I know I'm not posting near as frequently as I used to and that is mostly due to additional work stress. I still love getting out and taking photos... it just happens less frequently. Have a great Thursday!

Rain on the Horizon

It's been a good while since I hiked up to Bears Den overlook on the #AppalachianTrail. I wasn't sure what I would find and this evening it was clouds and rain. The rain stayed stuck in that spot for quite some time (must have been a slow moving cell) so I was able to shoot for a while before hiking back to my car and I never got wet:) For those celebrating Labor Day in the US, have a wonderful day and for everyone else, happy Monday!

Blackwater Falls

I took this back in June during a quick trip to the Blackwater Falls State Park area of West Virginia (near Davis, WV). It was quite the scramble to get down to the river level and then I had to work through some major rhododendron thicks to get to this vantage point. I'm still playing with the edit on this image. It was shot in raw and the water right in the middle I can't get quite right. But figured I'd go ahead an post it anyway as I like the comp and shutter speed of the shot:) Have a wonderful week!

Sound side sunset

Our beach house recommended a walkway in Monterey Shores as the best place to watch the sunset. While the view from the end of the boardwalk was wide open, I liked this view with the sea grass separating the sky from the reflection.

I spent some time this morning playing with On1 Photo Raw 2018.5. There is still so much I need to learn about the tools I have so that I can know what effect will produce the result I want. Many times I’m not sure I even know what result I want:)

Beach Bokeh

I decided to try shooting the sunrise with my recently purchased Sigma 100-400mm lens. It was nice looking for different compositions than my normal wide angle views:) I not totally happy with the edit. I probably need to figure out what is the lens and what is my editing:) The smallest f/stop at 400mm is f/6.3 so that is playing into the hard edges of be bokeh. Have a great Wednesday!

Beach Calm

I was hoping for more clouds this morning but the only clouds were part of a storm out to sea. So a long exposure helped to “calm out” the waves:)
