You know that thing where you feel like utter crap and all your bones and muscles ache and you have a slight fever and a sore throat, and just sitting up is exhausting...
I have that.
It's not so bad. Just a cold.

But I'm grateful for friends stopping by with comfort and juice and stuff.
I'm grateful for my housemates cooking dinner.
I'm grateful for Teenlet - she made me chicken soup which was super amazing.
And I'm grateful for +Snuggleshark Blåhaj. He's always extra snuggly when I'm feeling poorly.

We need to do more to teach boys to stop being little fuckwits in the first place. All the billboards, signs, and other campaigns I've seen online and around town are aimed at shaming girls who make the mistake of sending a photo. They all have a tone of "YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SLUT-SHAMED, DO YOU??!? DO YOU?!?!?! THEN IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO NOT BE SUCH A GOD-DAMNED SLUT YOU LITTLE SLUT!"

I haven't seen a campaign yet that says, "Hey jerkwad, how about not asking your girlfriend for nudes because that's inappropriate and you know you're going to cave to your friends and show them and then make her life a living hell? How about treating your girlfriend with some god-damned respect, you little entitled twerp?"

Show me that campaign. That's the one we need.

Lerato Majikfaerie: +Ambra Vanderpool yup. It's systemic. But educating young men is key. There's a difference between consuming what's on sale / freely offered, and demanding it with an innate sense of entitlement.
Little kids also grow up with candy bars in the checkout aisle at eye level, and from infancy we teach them that we can't just take it. Is it so unfathomable to teach children that women deserve the same respect as chocolate in the store?

Ambra Vanderpool: Question: these magazines are visible at the front of every checkout aisle in every grocery and convenience store all over the world. This is what toddlers, young kids, teenagers, young adults and middle aged people are bombarded with. Does it matter that, in this collage I've made, you can't see their faces? Not even a little bit. Of course teenage boys expect photos like this from every female they find attractive. They're societally conditioned for that.

It's Teenlet's 14th birthday according to the Hebrew calendar (next Friday according to the Gregorian calendar).
So she gets a special day. Except I'm the one who gave birth, so it's really my birthing day.
I can't quite fathom how my little baby got to be 14. But she's worth every minute.

The difference between days swings around wildly - sometimes they're a day apart, sometimes 2 weeks. And like I said they synch up every 19 years. Because there aren't an even number of Earth rotations in a solar year, aren't an even number of days in a lunar month... No calendar can be perfectly accurate without leap years and even leap seconds.

I'm grateful for getting through the storm relatively unscathed. The scale of devastation around my area is shocking. The council aren't clear when my road will be repaired. It might be weeks. But I'm grateful that we can get out with a 4wd.
The clearest thing is that in this incredibly terrible time; people have lost their homes and everything they have - the community are banding together and helping each other clean up and rebuild.

And sometimes it's good to be shut in for a while.
I prefer to stay in my rainforest than face the outside world.

Lerato Majikfaerie: +cobalt please my housemates are facing driving through shocking devastation to get to work, and passing areas that are still flooding, badly damaged roads, debris and rubble everywhere. It really is a disaster zone.
I'm grateful we live in a rich country with infrastructure in place to recover from this kind of thing. Roads are being rebuilt. The power is mostly back on. People have insurance. We are lucky.

This is the car park at the sports field in my village. I mean, was.

Lerato Majikfaerie: +Bomb Waldron the pine road bridge at Springbrook which was decimated was rebuilt as soon as it stopped raining.
But my road... The council are saying not till after Easter

Lerato Majikfaerie: +Bomb Waldron yeah. My road is a back road and there's a couple of other routes, so it only affects the few dozen residents. And most people can get some limited access with 4wd. So it's a low priority.
