best app ever! i usually dont write reviews but i cant say enough great things about this app. for starters it keeps track of my reading progress which motivates me to read. it lets you preview a book that catches your attention and if you like the book theres a link that allows you to buy it. this app has thought of everything! i made it a point to read at least 1 book a month and thanks to this app and Harlan Coben im up to 3 books this month. highly, highly recommend this app!

Ok it's a good app. It IS a good app. Apart from the loading screens at parts like when you wanna see your shelves. Why not cache that info and check in the background for changes instead of showing a loading screen? Or maybe idk what i'm talking about. Anyway. I miss the feature which lets you update the page you are on. I have to log in through the web browser to do that ; ( good app tho!

Love being able to keep track of my son's reading progress! We're reading 1,000 books before kindergarten and I like seeing them all on his virtual shelf. The only problem is, I have some obscure books that don't scan and don't show up in search results. So I can't track those. Otherwise, this would be a five star app!

Useful but so slow Good for keeping track of what you have read, what you're currently reading, and what you want to read. And there are tons of books. I have yet to fail in finding a book in its database. I also like the social component. But why does everything have to be so slow? Every time you want to make a change, you get the spinning circle of doom. On the contrary, the website is great! Why can't the app be more like the site?

Honestly I'd give this app a 3.5 for functionality, it lost half a star because it could be easier to navigate around . The other entire point is appearance, I'm judging this book by how it looks. It's mainly the colors (so yes i dislike the website) but also the font and layout AND THE FACT I CAN'T GIVE HALF A STAR. It needs a design team to revamp it.

Really good for keeping track of what you're reading/have read. Not as many features as the online version, but it gets the job done if you only want to keep track. The only thing I really want changed is that it doesn't have the option for writing personal notes to yourself about the book like the online version. It's very important to me, I'd give it 5 stars if it was added. Others are complaining about appearance, but i think it looks fine, it's not like it's my background screen lol. And i enjoy the little quotes while you wait for the screen to load. Good work guys!

Not very user friendly I love goodreads and have used it for years. I installed the app because I thought it would be more convenient and easier to use than the mobile site on my tablet but after installing this app i realized very quickly that it isn't very user friendly. The app doesn't have even half the features of the mobile site and I was greatly disappointed. I believe this app has great potential and I would love to use it if they would update it.
Good Reads - but a bit hard to handle... I love the idea of sharing books (audio and visual) with friends. Reviews are useful and swift to enter. Yet, I get a bit frustrated with the interface. Finding and setting start and end date for reading seems hidden. This makes me "lose my own Reading Challenge" as I could not tag. Other than this, I do enjoy it.
Pretty good... Overall its a nice program but could be improved. One such way would be to allow continuous scanning of books instead of having to choose the scan option every time you want to scan a book. This makes scanning libraries tedious. Another suggestion would be to incorporate a system that suggests books on what you have in your bookshelves and wish list and any time you scan and or add a book to your bookshelf it takes it out of suggestions and the wish list.
When I'm typing something on the search box, the suggestions take over my screen and I can't read what I'm typing. Also, it would be nice if you could zoom into a book cover and have its genres displayed, like it did at some point (they were all the way at the bottom some time ago).
Disappointed with Challenge I like this app for the most part, I can save titles of books I'm interested in and keep track of the ones I've read. I'm disappointed however that I decided to join in the 2016 reading challenge but 3 days into 2017 I am unable to check whether I met that challenge. What's the point then?
Painfully Slow Just got this app. Half the books I click on don't load after searching a title. Why is it so sloooow? Is this normal? Also when rating a book no matter what rating I give it it automatically says I gave a 5 star rating. When i try to correct it it takes a ton of tries until it registers that i clicked a different star.
OMG why is this app so bad??? I have the desktop version and was looking forward to having the information with me when travelling. Where is everything? All I can do is read reviews, buy and shelve, the whole point is to record all the book information that I want and need I so carefully made notes in the "notes" fields and they're not visible! And how do I never, ever see the "updates" feed, there are no settings. Reviews in random order, cannot sort.
Tedious to use I prefer to use web version as this does not allow as follow option, joining group, and also it doesn't permit me to change my profile pic. Plz fix these bugs this app have lot of potential.i hope developer will fix this problem.
I would give this app a better rating if it wasn't such a dumbed-down version of the website. It makes it hard to find things you want to do. Also, it cuts off my shelves at a certain point, so when adding books to shelves, I can only go up to 'S'. No reason to use this when the website works so much better.
I love using Goodreads to find books and track those I've read, but the app just doesn't work for me. It's missing more than half the content that the website has, so I have to go through the struggle of pulling the site up in my browser and requesting the desktop version of the site. Makes the app useless...
I can sign in on my computer with my Google account. Why, then, can't I do this on the app? A bit inconsistent. The feed is limited to about ten entries and rarely changes. Bar meters don't show on reading progress as they do on the site. The site is fundamentally better at this point, even on a mobile browser.
Getting more irritated Why isn't there a like button on a friend's review. I don't want to search for it. The light grey text used for everything except titles, has an incredibly low contrast with the white background, making it very difficult to read anything. [update] Nothing has changed. I still can't like a review. Colours/contrast is still lousy. I've gone back to using the website. [update] I just spent 20 minutes writing a review, and after I finished, it disappeared into the ether.
The interface is hell to navigate. The app design standards are outdated and it takes forever to load content. The pages are full of distractions, messy and cluttered. It's still missing many functionalities the website offers that are basic to navigating through books and series. Is there an update coming?
Love this app as it keeps me focussed on reading through each year with the reading challenge. Great reviews a d like being to see what friend are reading. Only issues - why can't I see my own posts in the updates feed? App crashes on opening, then reopens the 2nd time.
I love goodreads but the apps are falling short of spectacular. On my android, the app tells me I have a notification, but it only shows me the notification from three weeks ago (its always the same notification though). I've missed many giveaways because of this. And I do have the updated versions of the app. On my Kindle Fire, it doesn't have the update reading progress status bar. I read the Q&A and apparently you're able to do it directly through the Kindle app, but the majority of that books I read aren't Kindle books. They're physical books.
Needs redesigning The UI is unintuitive and very slow to respond. A lot of options available on the website simply aren't available here and the while experience just feels like a bit of a chore. I really only use it for reading reviews these days.
Best Book App! I've found literally dozens of new authors and read genre's I wouldn't have tried in a traditional bookstore. I can spend as much time browsing here, through all the recommendations and reviews, as actually reading a new book. LOVE IT!
Needs work I like it and like tracking what I read, but I have been getting frequent error messages when trying to use the app. Doesn't matter what I am trying to do. Happens with pretty much anything. I hit Retry repeatedly until it finally works. The app isn't super user friendly either.
How to read, help!! I can't really understand how to read the books. I got all the books that i wanted read. So i'm happy for that, i have only been able to find them and then shelve them in 'to-read', haven't been able to open the books and read them. How to do that? Is it not free? Will i have to buy the books? Please help, respond soon. Thanks.
Very glitchy Constantly getting page unavailable check back soon. Takes an eternity to actually complete a task both on the computer and on the app. Could be a great app but needs major work on the coding. Will be deleting app until you guys get it together. Very disappointed.
What happened? I've used this for several years but since the upgrade it sucks. Where is the quick access barcode scan? I can only save a book to 'want to read' but if i already bought it i can't change it to another shelf. Search is terrible and often misses books i know are there. Back to my laptop or internet use. Fix this or I'm un installing.
I like GoodReads a lot, the app needs some work though. There are some things on the desktop version that you cannot do on the app. The one thing I really dislike is that there is no home button. I have to continually press the back button to get to the home screen again.
Great really. Couple things: 1. I hate having to scroll through every comment to get to the most recent. When I click on a notification, it should just go to the most recent. Sucks when there are 800+ comments to scroll through. 2. Would like it to be easier to find and search through groups to be a part of. It's a nightmare to make that happen. Just make a groups tab?
Badly designed. Does not sync properly You mark.a book as reading and it doesnt show up in shelves. Ui is horrible and shows no intent of improvement since app was published. Its groups are just spam infested
I have same problems as others who gave less than three stars rating. The app could be better. It's slow to load, cannot recognize the barcode on the cover of Friedman's newest book. Had high hopes but was disappointed.
It's frustrating that on my Z force phone the reading challenge is not updating properly and I can't change the edition of the books I'm reading. I love the new scan option and use Goodreads all the time, I just hope these bugs are fixed.
Lack of functionality. Right now I can only see a list of the top books for 2016. I can not search for books by subject on this app, which is disappointing. I can google it and it opens in the app but how in the app am I able to just search by topic? Please add more functions like the desktop version.
App needs work It looks outdated, like it came from android 4 era, pictures and logos are low res. Process of adding book to the list is not so intuitive and transparent.
Way too much work to edit your book shelves. 4+ clicks to change or remove a book from a shelf isn't user friendly. Should be able to make mass edits to a shelf at one time without having to go to the individual book page to change its status.
Poorly done app. Slow and often unreliable. Difficult to search books that are already on your shelf, likes to duplicate the same book on your shelf. I still don't know if someone can see my status update on Facebook or not.
Almost there Great app for accessing everything Goodreads, just let down by being too slow and a little unintuitive at times. Would like a widget or shortcut straight to the 'update progress' feature.
Is it really that difficult? For an app that should really only be a wrapper around the website, why is this so slow to launch, slow to update (seriously, I just shelved a book as "currently reading" but that list doesn't update even on manual refresh?), and subject to random crashes...? I like the Goodreads service (it's really the only social network that I still actively use) but come *on*...
Not user-friendly The concept of good reads is excellent but the execution of the site and mobile app is pretty terrible if I'm being completely honest. It's also nearly impossible to find the profiles of people you know.
Great iPhone app, pretty terrible for Android This was one of my favorite apps for the iPhone. However, the app for the Google Pixel is disappointing. It's slow, the search function is horrible, and it crashes all the time. Very frustrating.
