FAQs

How are we getting there?
You can get there however you want but we recommend joining us on a flight on Friday, 1/13 to Atlanta and then taking a coach bus to Selma. The bus will stop in Montgomery for touring of civil rights locations.

Who is going?
Anyone who registers. We will be joined by people from multiple communities, including the Jewish community of Birmingham, Alabama.

Will there be childcare?
We do not have the capacity to provide childcare on this trip. There is also no Eruv and there will be a walking tour of Selma on Shabbat afternoon. So we don't encourage small children to attend.

Where will we stay?
There are approximately 120 hotel rooms in walking distance of downtown Selma.

Flight Information:

The recommended group flight is:

Southwest Airlines Flight 143 departing from Reagan National Airport (DCA) on Friday, January 13th at 6:00 AM, arriving Atlanta - Hartsfield Airport (ATL) at 8:00 AM.
Return on Southwest Airlines Flight 4850 departing ATL on Sunday, January 15th at 4:35 PM, arriving DCA at 6:15 PM.

Another option through BWI:

An alternate recommended option which may be cheaper at this point is:

Southwest Airlines Flight 1342 departing from BWI Airport (BWI) on Friday, January 13th at 6:10 AM, arriving Atlanta - Hartsfield Airport (ATL) at 8:15 AM.
Return on Southwest Airlines Flight 2039 departing ATL on Sunday, January 15th at 4:05 PM, arriving BWI at 5:45 PM.

Other travel options are available and you may choose any airline or make alternate arrangements, but the motorcoach will leave Atlanta airport promptly at 9:00 AM on Friday. The bus will return to arrive at the airport no later than 2:30 PM on Sunday.

There are limited hotel options in Selma within walking distance of the synagogue and walking tour, and in order to secure a spot, we recommend booking as soon as possible. The recommended group hotel is:
