LEED certified buildings save money by using less energy and water, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and offer a healthier indoor environment for occupants, which reduces sick days and increases productivity.
The green economy is growing.
The green building industry is on track to account for more than 3.3 million U.S. jobs — more than one-third of the entire U.S. construction sector – and generate $190.3 billion in labor earnings by 2018. The industry’s direct contribution to U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is also expected to reach $303.5 billion from 2015-2018. Project Haiti is USGBC’s initiative to rebuild a LEED Platinum orphanage in Port Au Prince, Haiti, which was devastated by the 2010 earthquake and continues to be affected by natural disasters such as the recent Hurricane Matthew.
