My New Low-Tech One Cup Coffeemaker Filter

Honestly, I don't know what it is called. I used it at my friend's home in New York and asked her where to buy one.

It just has three simple parts. The lower one has a very fine filter, finer than a French Press, so I can use it with my inexpensive Israeli Elite Turkish Coffee.

Then there's a cup that fits in which has a few small holes.

  • The filter piece goes over the cup.
  • The coffee goes over the filter, and
  • the cup with holes over that.
  • Pour in the water which drips slowly picking up the flavor of the coffee and lands in the cup.
  • You can use the cover to keep in the heat.
  • And then when it's finished, meaning all the water has filtered through, you can rest the filter and cup on the cover.
I bought it at Zabar's on Broadway, but I can't find it on their site. It was the last one they had, and I bought the display smaple.

Coffee, French Press, Israeli Ground

I was given a bag of ground coffee for my French Press. This was done at a very well-known coffeebean place in Jerusalem's Machane Yehuda, Bashkovits, 32 Etz Chaim Street. The coffee is very fine, and the filter of the French Press had no problems, hit no resistance when pushed down. I don't know the type of bean/flavor, but it's smooth and pleasant.

I drink my coffee with milk and sugar in a giant mug. Actually I have two mugfulls most mornings. And when I'm in an American coffee place I treat myself to cream or half 'nd half.

Thanks to the one who gave me this delicious coffee!

Coffee Bargain? When Good Coffee is On Sale

The other day, I saw Brazilian coffee on sale at Rami Levi, near the Yafiz where I work.  It's an Elite Coffee, the brand that makes the Turkish coffee I like.  The price was very reasonable, so I bought some.  This morning, since I figured I could always make myself some Turkish if it's awful, I made it.  Yes, that's pretty risky, two mornings in a row.

Various coffees have different flavors, and that's without anything artificial added in.  I like a coffee you can smell as soon as you open the bag or jar.  Yes, I like strong coffee.  I've walked into coffee shops asking for something to counteract jetlag and been disappointed when the worker replied with a blank stare.

Oh, yes, about that Brazilian coffee... a weaker than Turkish aroma entered the room as I opened it.  Yes, that's an acceptable start.  I cooked it up with sugar in a pot, as is my standard low-tech method.  It doesn't taste like Turkish, because it's Brazilian, but it definitely is coffee, a bit gentler but tasty.  So, when I'm next at work, if the special is still on, I'll buy more.

Have a great day!
