Our World

The abstract of snow

Snow is so beautiful —

It really brings out the colour of patient dogs.

Simmie.jpg

It falls in swirls

Of fairy lights,

Snowygarden.jpg

Turning the woods

Into a mysterious place.

Mystery.jpg

Suddenly, tall, snow-topped trees

Make us realize how small we are in the universe,

Trees.jpg

And humble wood

Is turned into abstract art.

The heart of the snow

This is a snowy post —

(Sorry about the pun),

Posts.jpg

Where splashes of red and white

Look like Santa’s hat;

Red+snow.jpg

And snug houses

Are framed by snowy branches.

Redhouse.jpg

And, if you’re lucky,

You might find the heart of winter.

The sheep in the snow

This is a winter’s tail

Full of snow and sheep.

Sheepandfence.jpg

The dogs and I were out for a long Sunday walk

When we herd a strange sound.

Wool you just look at what we found?

Sheep.jpg

The sheep were framed beautifully

By the snowy pine needles.

Snowyneedles.jpg

I feel a little sheepish for all my baaa-d puns,

So, I’ll just leave you with one last photo

And wish ewe you all a wonderful holiday season!

The gold in the cold

What a gift from Mother Nature —

Lots more snow!

Boat.jpg

Ruby and Simmie look

Especially photogenic

With their golden fur against the snow.

Snowydogs.jpg

Ruby looks good

Dressed in snow sparkles too.

On the way home, I found a mirror and took

A (fairly bad) shot of myself with the dogs.

Winter haitus

One day, it’s glorious autumn

And bursts of colour,

Endofautumn.jpg

The next, it’s heavy snowfall

And the magic of winter —

With autumn leaves still hanging on.

Winterbarn.jpg

Although all this snow has now melted,

(Yes, all melted away!)

We had one wonderful week

Full of the magic of snow.

(I’m hoping it will come back before Christmas.)

Wear it like a crown

We had the biggest snowfall every recorded

In November over the past 111 years.

Swings.jpg

Mist rose from the ground

As the storm raged on.

Snowy.jpg

Autumn leaves continued to fall

After it stopped snowing – creating

A curious mix of winter and autumn (wintumn).

Snowyleaves.jpg

It was a struggle to get down to the beach

To enjoy snowy views.

Snowybeach.jpg

Trees turned into Japanese paintings

With graceful curved branches

Wearing the gift of snow like a crown.

Deer gazing

Autumn is a good time for the deer:

One minute you only see fields,

And the next minute, the deer are there.

Two.jpg

Their dance is perfectly synchronized:

Eyes front …

Three.jpg

Eyes right

(And look surprised).

And enjoy the golden light of autumn.

Summer reflections

Standing on the edge of the lake,

The water as calm as a mirror,

Green.jpg

I spot swans

On the other side

Swans.jpg

And a bridge floating

Among luscious green reflections.

Layers

A couple of weeks ago, I was at my brother’s wedding

And enjoyed layers of love.

(This is my favourite shot from the day – just after the wedding ceremony was finished.)

wedding

At the end of the day, I went for a lovely walk

And met these newly shorn creatures, who had just lost their layers of fur.

They seemed to be saying, “Alpaca my bags and come along with you.”

Alpaca.jpg

And, finally, the sunset did not disappoint

As I enjoyed the little village

Nestling in layers of gold.

Layers both conceal and reveal the beauty within.

Lovebirds

I’m off to England at the end of the week —

It’s a very special occasion.

Blackwhite.jpg

My brother is getting married!

So there will be celebrations, the eating of good food

Wedding.jpg

And some long walks up on the South Downs, I hope.

I’m looking forward to a love-filled week.

(I’ll be back on my blog in a week or so. Until then, take care!)
