Lava (2019/2023) is a high-legibility editorial typeface, initially designed by Peter Bil'ak for Works That Work magazine. It is legible and harmonious at small sizes, sophisticated and elegant at large sizes.
Hebrew usually is written with a pen cut at a 60° angle, so unlike the Latin, the typographical contrast is reversed — the horizontal strokes are thick, and the verticals are thin. The extremely high contrast of the Latin heavyweights uncovers the whiteness of the typical Hebrew text-image. This observation elicited a reassessment of the density of Hebrew forms to achieve a harmonious text-image, especially when considering the blend of Latin words within Hebrew text. Furthermore, adjustments were made to the horizontal and vertical proportions of the typeface, along with its stroke weight distribution.
