לפני שלוש שנים התחלנו במוזיאון העלייה הראשונה בזכרון יעקב בפרויקט מיפוי של אותן משפחות מייסדים של המושבות החקלאיות. הכוונה היתה ליצור פרופיל ביוגרפי אישי לכל משפחה, ולספר את סיפור הדור הראשון
והשני של המתיישבים (חלק מהצאצאים עלו עם הוריהם ורובם נולדו בארץ). מדובר בקבוצה גדולה ומשמעותית של משפחות שיצרו את הבסיס להתיישבות החלוצית בארץ ישראל, חלקן הקטן זכה להכרה ופרסום (או לפחות לרחוב על שמן בישוב שבו גרו) ורובם אלמונים. המשפחות היו מאד גדולות, ולמרות תמותה של ילדים הם בנו שושלות מפוארות של שישה דורות בארץ. נציין שהיתה גם עזיבה רבה של בני המתיישבים לארה"ב, אוסטרליה, דרום אפריקה ודרום אמריקה – אלו מתגלים במהלך המחקר.
מקורות המידע שלנו מבוססים על ספריה גדולה שכוללת ספרי מושבות (נדפסו בין בשנים 1952-1932), מחקרים אקדמיים שפורסמו, החל משנת 1982 בעיקר בהוצאת יד בן צבי, ספרי משפחות בהוצאות עצמיות, וחומר ארכיוני מארכיוני המושבות. לגבי תאריכי לידה ופטירה נעזרנו באתרים My MyHeritage, BillionGraves ו Geni . אחרון חביב, אך ראשון בחשיבותו- האנציקלופדיה של דוד תדהר לחלוצי הישוב ובוניו (1974-1947)
האתר עדיין בבניה אך הוא פתוח לציבור בכתובת Meyasdim.co.il לכל דף באתר יש פרטי "צור קשר" ואנחנו מקבלים בשמחה מידע מהציבור, בודקים את המהימנות ומעלים לאתר סיפורים, תמונות, תעודות ותיקונים.

The First Aliyah in the Agricultural Colonies, a New Website and Primary Sources of Information

Three years ago, we at the First Aliyah Museum in Zichron Yaakov began a mapping project of those founding families of the agricultural colonies. The intention was to create a personal biographical profile for each family, and to tell the story of the first
and second generations of the settlers (some of the descendants immigrated with their parents and most of them were born in Israel). This is a large and significant group of families who created the basis for the pioneering settlement in the Land of Israel, a small number of whom gained recognition and publicity (or at least a street named after them in the settlement where they lived) and most of them are unknown. The families were very large, and despite the death of children, they built magnificent dynasties of six generations in the country. We should note that there was also a large departure of the children of the settlers to the USA, Australia, South Africa and South America - these are discovered during the research. Our sources of information are based on a large library that includes colony books (printed between 1932-1952), academic studies published, starting in 1982 mainly by Yad Ben Zvi, self-published family books, and archival material from the colony archives. Regarding dates of birth and death, we used the websites MyHeritage, BillionGraves and Geni. Last but first in importance - David Tidhar's Encyclopedia of the Pioneers of the Settlement and Its Builders (1947-1974)
The site is still under construction but is open to the public at Meyasdim.co.il. Each page on the site has "Contact" details, and we gladly receive information from the public, check the reliability and upload stories, photos, certificates and corrections to the site.

The lecturer

Samy Yecutieli is an expert in Jewish genealogy with two published books and multiple lectures on the topic. His research on the Yecutieli and Biçaço families captures resilience from Persia and Istanbul to Israel and Venezuela.

Classically defined, the Sephardim (סְפָרַדִּים) are Jews with remote origins in the Iberian Peninsula. Jewish communities settled in what are today Spain and Portugal in around the third century C.E., when the region was under Roman rule, and disintegrated during the massacres, forced conversions, and expulsions of the fourteenth through late fifteenth centuries. The settlement of Iberian-origin Jews among and alongside other Jewish populations elsewhere in Europe, whether as merchants and physicians invited by the Polish nobility or as refugees, has given rise to the idea that many Ashkenazim trace their remote ancestry to Sephardi Jews.
Is this claim a prestige-seeking fantasy heritage or does it reflect distant memories of convergence among Jewish diasporic groups? When Ashkenazi Jews undertake a quest for Sephardi lineage, what is at stake? This talk explores some of the main sources that inform the Sephardi heritage idea, from first and last names, family and folk traditions, prayer ritual (נוּסַח), epitaphs, archival sources, and, more recently, DNA studies. This talk will also consider some of the philosophical and logical challenges to the idea of Sephardi heritage among Ashkenazim, including distant ancestry as rhizomatic (heavily entangled) rather than linear in nature. Other themes include the “myth of Sephardic supremacy” among Ashkenazi Jews beginning in the nineteenth century, oral traditions among Hasidic dynasties, and what Mair José Benardete called “Neo-Sephardim.” The author will draw on secondary sources, rare printed matter, and her own research in the cemeteries and communal archives of co-existing, post-exilic Jewish communities

About the Speaker:
Aviva Ben-Ur is Full Professor in the Department of Judaic and Near Eastern Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she holds adjunct status in the Department of History and in the Programs in Spanish and Portuguese and Comparative Literature. A historian specializing in Atlantic Jewish history, slavery studies, and the Ottoman diaspora, she is the author of Jewish Autonomy in a Slave Society: Suriname in the Atlantic World, 1651-1825 (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2020); Remnant Stones: The Jewish Cemeteries and Synagogues of Suriname: Essays (Hebrew Union College Press, 2012) and Remnant Stones: The Jewish Cemeteries of Suriname: Epitaphs (Hebrew Union College Press, 2009), both co-authored with Rachel Frankel; and Sephardic Jews in America: A Diasporic History (New York University Press, 2009). With Wim Klooster, she co-edited Jewish Entanglements in the Atlantic World (Ithaca, New York: Cornell University Press, 2023). Her current project, funded in part by the Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation Fellowship, focuses on the ordeal of citizenship in Western Europe as experienced by thousands of Ottoman Jews, Christians, and Muslims during the first half of the twentieth century. בהגדרה קלאסית, הספרדים הם יהודים שמוצאם רחוק בחצי האי האיברי. קהילות יהודיות התיישבו במה שהיום ספרד ופורטוגל בסביבות המאה השלישית לספירה, כשהאזור היה תחת שלטון רומי, והתפוררו במהלך מעשי הטבח, ההמרה הכפויה והגירוש של המאות הארבע עשרה עד סוף המאה החמש עשרה. התיישבותם של יהודים ממוצא איברי בקרב ולצידם אוכלוסיות יהודיות אחרות במקומות אחרים באירופה, בין אם כסוחרים ורופאים שהוזמנו על ידי האצולה הפולנית ובין אם כפליטים, הולידה את הרעיון שאשכנזים רבים מתחקים אחר מוצאם המרוחק ליהודים ספרדים.
האם טענה זו היא מורשת פנטזיה שואפת יוקרה או שהיא משקפת זיכרונות רחוקים של התכנסות בין קבוצות גולה יהודיות? כאשר יהודים אשכנזים מבצעים חיפוש אחר שושלת ספרדית, מה עומד על הפרק? הרצאה זו בוחנת כמה מהמקורות העיקריים המספקים את רעיון המורשת הספרדית, משמות פרטיים ושמות משפחה, מסורות משפחתיות ועם, טקס תפילה, כתוביות, מקורות ארכיוניים, ולאחרונה, מחקרי DNA. הרצאה זו תדון גם בכמה מהאתגרים הפילוסופיים והלוגיים לרעיון המורשת הספרדית בקרב אשכנזים, לרבות מוצא רחוק כטבעי ריזומטי (סבוך מאוד) ולא ליניארי. נושאים נוספים כוללים את "מיתוס העליונות הספרדית" בקרב יהודי אשכנז החל מהמאה התשע-עשרה, מסורות בעל פה בקרב שושלות חסידיות, ומה שמאיר חוסה בנארדטה כינה "ניאו-ספרדים". המחברת תסתמך על מקורות משניים, חומר דפוס נדיר ומחקר משלה בבתי הקברות ובארכיונים הקהילתיים של קהילה יהודית שלאחר הגלות.
