Android N will be the first release of Android to support modifiers for skin tone. Design changes from Android 6.0.1 include front-facing smileys, and a replacement of gender-neutral "blob" characters with male/female versions.

About Google Emojis
Google emoji images are used on stock Android devices (generally Nexus branded models), Gmail Web Interface, Google Hangouts, and ChromeOS. These are provided as part of the Noto Emoji project.
Platform vendors such as Samsung, LG and HTC use their own emoji images. WhatsApp displays Apple emoji images on Android, instead of these emojis.
