Saturday glimpse

22 Saturday Jan 2011

A glimpse of a secret project I’m working on.

I’m testing a quiltpattern for a blogger/quiltdesigner. It has lots of lovely blocks, a Dresdenplate center,  settingsblocks and borders. It’s quite a job, but I love it and in the end I will have an amazingly beautiful quilttop made of glorious fabrics that were waiting in my stash for the right project to come along.

There’s Hope Valley by Denyse Schmidt, Brooklyn Heights by Kitty Yoshida, shot cottons by Kaffe Fasset, Lotus by Amy Butler and to spice it all up some blue linen print and some dotty prints from various designers. The white I use is Kona snow.

I will reveal the whole quilt when it’s finished and when I’m allowed to.

I’m also working on some blocks for Quilts for Queensland. Corrie of Retromummy collects quiltblocks, quilt-tops, backings, battings and finished quilts (all sizes) for the people who are affected by the floodings in Queensland, Australia. You can read about it here.

Another way to be involved is to help raise money by taking part in the Queensland Flood Appeal Auctions. When you click on the logo you are re-directed to Toni’s blog where you can find all the items that are auctioned.

Happy weekend!

a flower of boobs

for the Make a Boob project. Nina Lise (Mrs.Moen) has set a goal to raise 1 000 boobs by the end of March 2010.

The Make a Boob is a project about breast cancer and has two main goals:

Offering people with breast cancer to participate in workshops where they will decorate boobs.

These workshops are set up in co-operation with the local chapter of the Cancer Association. Participants can decide to keep their work or to donate them to Make a Boob Art.

To create awareness and involvement through
– making circles for workshops
– participating in workshops and decorating boobs
– exhibition of Make a Boob Art

Nina Lise invites us all to participate. When you are interested please go over to the Make a Boob project blog and to find all the details about the project.

I made boobs from all kinds of blocks from workshops I took. This way all those forgotten blocks serve a wonderful purpose.

bye bye 2010

My 2010 mosaic of the projects I started and sometimes even finished… LOL! It sure is a great way to face all the projects that need to be worked on. Only 13 of the 36 pictures involve finished stuff! Phew!

I love squares and pinwheels, don’t I? I love hexagons, the colour blue, sampler quilts and many different styles. Well, you need to experience before you know what you like, don’t you?

Thanks for your friendship and support, your visits and comments, your emails, the fun swaps (private and bigger ones), your gifts and cards, your inspiration, your words of wisdom and of course your lovely blogs!

A happy turn of the year!

See you in 2011!

Interactive Quilt Project – progress

28 Tuesday Sep 2010

Thanks for your votes on the last IQP post! The overwhelming number of 11 was received… LOL! I decided it would be wonderful to have this project finished in 2010, so I’m working in top gear now!

The four blocks that all got 4 votes are: a dutchman’s puzzle block, a double pinwheel block, a spiderweb block and a square in a square block. The four winning ideas went into the hat and the two that were drawn are:

A Dutchman’s puzzle block in blue’s and green’s (for Evy and Hetty).

A double pinwheel  block in turquoise, pink and red (for Katherine and Anne-Marie)

Evy, Hetty, Katherine and Anne-Marie, your names are in the hat for the final draw!

15 Blocks are finished now. The top is coming together and is going to look like a wonderful sampler quilt.

You can choose a new block from the list below, but other idea’s are welcome too! Don’t forget to tell what colours you would like the block to be.

# 1. a (wonky) house block

# 2. a (wonky) tree block

# 3. a (wonky) basket block

# 4. a (wonky) butterfly block (tutorial by Mr Schenkmannsquilts)

# 5. a spiderweb block

# 6. an Ohio star block

# 7. a traditionally pieced basket block

# 8. a drunkards path block

# 9. a card trick block

# 10. a bear-paw (variation)  block

# 11. a pieced butterfly block (McCallsquiltings)

# 12. a square in a square block

And here are the rules once again:

1. On every Interactive Quilt Project (IQP) 2010 post, you can a leave comment with an idea for a block and share your favourite colours for this block.
2. When I’ve have received (at least) 10 suggestions for blocks, I will draw the name of the winning block(s) and put it together.
3. I will post about the winning block and ask you to leave a new comment for the next block. And so on and so forth, untill all blocks needed are finished.
4. In the end, the names of all block winners will go into the hat and I will draw the name of the winner. When the quilt is finished (sandwiched, quilted and bound) it will be send to you. You can choose to keep it yourself, give it to a dear friend or donate it to charity, that’s completely up to you.
5. Make sure I can reply to your comments (anonymous and no reply comments won’t count). One entry per person per IQP 2010 post. You will have a reasonable amount of chances to get your name in the hat for the final drawing when you leave comments on the IQP 2010 posts.
6. Once you’ve ‘won a block’ you are allowed to take another chance by leaving a comment and suggestion on the following IQP 2010 post.

So, please leave a comment before Tuesday October 5th, 2010, 12.00 hrs WET.

Interactive Quilt Project – update

16 Thursday Sep 2010

After reading the comments on my last IQP post (which disappeared strangly after I removed the poll) and the outcome of the poll, the decision is made. No appliqued blocks for this interactive quilt. Maybe there will be one in the future. All appliqued blocks. That will be fun to make too!

As there were not enough comments to choose a pieced block, I decided to just pick a block.

A bow tie variation block in green and pink. I love bow tie blocks, but never made one. I’m pretty happy with the result.

You can see all the other blocks I made here.

To help you a little, and to kick of the rest of the project, I made a list of most of the ideas that didn’t make it untill now. You can choose a block from this list. The block with the most votes will be made for the next round! New idea’s are also welcome! And please don’t forget to tell about your favourite colours!

# 1. a (wonky) house block

# 2. a wonky tree block

# 3. a spiderweb block

# 4. an Ohio star block

# 5. a flying geese block / Dutchman’s puzzle block

# 6. a double (or single) pinwheel block

# 7. a drunkards path block

# 8. a wonky basket block

# 9. a pieced heart block

# 10. a card trick block

# 11. a bear-paw block

# 12. a (wonky) butterfly block (tutorial by Mr Schenkmannsquilts)

# 13. a pieced butterfly block (McCallsquiltings)

# 14. a square in a square block

You know the rules. Please leave a comment!

P.S. I leave the comment section open untill September 23rd. I hope I have received 10 comments with ideas by then.

Interactive Quilt Project 2010 – stage 5

01 Monday Mar 2010

Posted by nicolette in give-away, IQP 2010, projects, quilt-along, quilts

We’ve reached a new stage of the project, 8 blocks are finished, there 13 or 18 more to go. I made another two blocks for this round.

The winners are Mrs Moen with a double 4-patch block in purple and orange and Thimbleanna with a wonky pinwheel (whirly giggle) block. Something went wrong with the maths for the giggle block, so it’s 11″ unfinished and I need the blocks to be 12,5″ unfinished. I’ll figure that out later!

Nina Lise and Anna, your names are in the hat for the final drawing to win the quilt!

The double 4-patch block

The whirly-giggle block.

Dear blogfriends, please leave a comment to this post with a new suggestion. Block ideas that didn’t make it so far can be suggested again. If you won a block, you can participate again. And for those of you, who are new to the project and the rules, please go overhere to find out about it.

Edited: You can see all the finished blocks here.

Did you see I took the pictures outside in my ‘city garden’? There’s been sunshine from early this morning and I l.o.v.e. it!

I’ve been lurking at this blog for a few hours now and I’ve seen Anina just posted the first block for the pin-wheel party.

I will use these fabrics for the quilt, light blue linnen and an Arcadia layer cake. I’m off to the sewing machine! See you later!

Happy week!

crazy roosters, too lazy to crow for a day

25 Thursday Feb 2010

Mrs Moen’s mystery quilt-along is finished.

I had been playing with the blocks to discover the mystery lay-out but without any success.

The result!

Mr DC didn’t have a clue what was hidden in the blocks. Do you?

Maybe when I put some eyes on the quilttop ?

Four crazy roosters. They all have baseball caps and the one at the bottom right has a small trailer…LOL!

I made a wallhanging in stead of a table-runner and picked charcoal coloured borders. Now I need to wrap my head around the backing, batting and quilting. Mrs Moen did such a wonderful job on the quilting!

Thanks again Nina Lise for organizing the mystery quilt-along. It was fun to see when I choose fabrics for a mystery project it can lead to a real surprise!

IQP 2010 update

17 Wednesday Feb 2010

Two new ideas for blocks for the Interactive Quilt Project 2010 are drawn and finished.

A liberated churn dash block in solids (dusty pink and jolly red) for Marit.

A Dresden Plate block in green, blue and yellow for Stephanie.

Marit and Stephanie your names are in the hat for the final quilt!

A little mosaic of the blocks so far:

1. Dresden Plate block for Stephanie, 2. Nine-patch block for Chase, 3. wonky star block, 4. Liberated Churn-dash block for Marit, 5. Maverick star block voor Karol-Ann, 6. disappearing nine-patch block for Tracy

I love this project! It’s great to see the blocks come together. My first attempt making a Dresden Plate block ended up with a block of 17,5″.  Putting the liberated Churn Dash block together was uncomplicated! I can picture a complete quilt from these blocks with other solids.

I’m ready for the next round. Please leave a comment with a (new) block idea and if you like, your favourite. Winners of blocks can leave another idea as well. You can read about the rules here.

IQP 2010 update

You sure know how to challenge me with ideas for the IQP 2010 quilt blocks! Some block ideas are completely new to me.

I actually made two blocks for this round, but on second thoughts I didn’t feel happy about one of them. It’s a learning curve and that’s what I hoped for.

The new block:

Karol Ann: ‘I love those Maverick Star blocks on the Quiltville website‘.

Karol-Ann, this is your block and your name is in the hat!

You can see the other finished blocks for the IQP 2010 quilt on my flickr photopage.

Ready, set, go for the next stage! Please leave a comment on this post with a new block suggestion. If you’re new to the project, please read about the rules here. The winners of the first 3 blocks can also leave another comment with a new idea or repeat a former idea that didn’t make it yet!

building stashes

A summary and some links for you.

My stash of Dear Jane blocks.

Working with these fabrics always make me happy!

I joined the mystery project on Mrs Moen’s blog. It starts on January 25th. There’s also a button in my sidebar.

As I love phinwheels, I feel tempted to join the pinwheel sampler quilt along, hosted by Rachel Griffith on her blog p.s. i quilt.

Stephanie hosts a string-quilt challenge.

Her post reminded me of the blocks I received from a dear friend, after we agreed to swap blocks. Another stash to tackle!

Never a dull moment! There’s so much happening in crafty blogland!

Happy days!
