DetailsThis particular quick bread combines an irresistible array of flavors with the dark chocolate chips, nuts, and squash.
DetailsIn Sweden, Santa Lucia is celebrated on December 13th. During this darkest time of year, the light brought forth from the crown of candles worn by the eldest girl in the family who carries lussekatter and freshly brewed coffee to gently awaken her household with a sweet song is very welcome. Enjoy these delicious saffron buns with coffee, tea, or cocoa throughout the holiday season, or any time of year!
DetailsFougasse is easily one of my very favorite breads. Its striking yet delicate leaf pattern makes fougasse a beautiful and unique bread, and the combined flavors of olive oil, rosemary and salt make it unbelievably delicious.
DetailsGood pita bread is magic. Seriously! We’ve found that even leftovers otherwise destined for the chickens (ok, we don’t have chickens but we do have a compost bin), are magically transformed, in a pita pocket, to a culinary delight. Try it yourself. You’ll be amazed. So imagine how much more amazed you’ll be when you…
DetailsThis summer, use fresh kale and feta cheese to experience some of your favorite Mediterranean flavors. DetailsI love eating organic crackers but I’ve found them to be costly to buy for a relatively small portion. This simple, easy to make recipe satisfies both my wallet and my taste buds, plus it makes a generous amount. Feel free to experiment with different flours, nuts, seeds, and spices to suit your taste. We’d love to hear about what delicious variations you come up with.
DetailsThese delicious muffins are moist due to the zucchini, springy due to the spelt, low in glycemic index value due to the date sugar, and pretty healthy due to all three. Add chopped nuts for added health value. You may substitute your sweetener of choice, omit the chocolate chips, peel the zucchini – feel free to make the recipe your own. For those with little ones who are picky eaters and/or are particular about the texture of food, puree the zucchini rather than shred it. Any way you go about it, you will end up with a mouth watering treat you can feel good about.
DetailsWith its use of lower glycemic date sugar and brown rice syrup, this is a healthier version of the alltime favorite American cookie. They give a satisfying sweetness without spiking your blood sugar levels through the roof. We also used freshly ground red fife heritage wheat in place of modern red wheat, which adds a nutty sweet flavor and warm toasty color. Try it. Hide the recipe, and no one will know they’re eating cookies that likely won’t contribute to their early demise. In fact, they just might make you smile. Use organic ingredients where possible.

DetailsWe love to eat bananas at our house, but don’t always get to them before they brown. We don’t let any go to waste, though – as soon as they’re deemed too dark to eat, we toss them in the freezer, still in their peel, for future banana bread. The darker the better when it comes to bananas for this bread. Put 4-5 frozen bananas in a bowl in the refrigerator to thaw overnight, or if making banana bread the same day thaw them in their peels in a bowl of warm water. Once thawed, simply cut or tear open one end of the banana peel and the deliciously ripened banana will just slide out and into your bowl for easy mashing.
DetailsA healthier take on the fresh and delicious strawberry shortcake. By using heritage wheat and date sugar, you can enjoy the summery flavors without the guilt. Feel free to substitute frozen berries if fresh aren’t available to you. We recommend using organic ingredients whenever possible.
DetailsUse this recipe for a healthier approach to a Chunky Chocolate Cookie. Red Fife heirloom wheat adds a nutty flavor and rich color. Being a whole grain, it contains the bran and wheat germ for increased nutrition and healthy fiber. We recommend using date sugar for less of a glycemic spike. The point is, you can happily enjoy these cookies with less guilt!
DetailsThis is a great recipe to make, and later enjoy, with kids. Adapted from The Smitten Kitchen’s recipe, based on Nancy Silverton’s Pastries from the La Brea Bakery.
