    The architects Bevan & Liberatos created this beautiful plan of a working barn on the coast of South Carolina, based on a water color from 1799. The big technical improvement can be found on the eaves, which are now bellcast eaves, or sprocketed eaves, perfectly adapted to SC.

    In the long run, I don't believe that platforms that support 2.3 billion users are viable. They cannot be governed in ways that are fair and effective. What would this work look like in a platform that was an actual community, with people moderating spaces they were invested in?

    The “technical dumbing down” I’m referring to here is ‘platform’ UI which assumes the person using it has no interest in leveraging the power of the web. e.g. doesn’t want to: - cite precise URLs - be semantically precise All while the platform code grows ever more complex.

    Let’s hope that’s it. I fear it’s consistent with the balkanisation and technical dumbing down of the web. In theory, deep linking to content that now requires a login is straightforward enough. In practice, if not enough people want to do so, execs won’t bother to enable it.

    …Consider that, in a debate of interest, one doesn’t know: 1. Who attended 2. Who spoke and when The only way to determine 2 is to manually trawl through the text, or search it for someone specific, and one still doesn't know who was present but did not speak.

    …Aaargh!, Holding my 🎠 horses 🎠. display:contents is only an option right now if I don’t give a crap about accessibility: dammit

    This is bad behavior by browsers, but until it is fixed, the only acceptable use for `display: contents` is to remove extra divs that you added for your fallback layout but don't need for your grid layout. Do not use—yet—on semantic elements: <ul>, <nav>, <button>, <header>, etc
