As someone who worked closely with the intel community when I was the NSC Iran Director, I can say they are definitely not naive. They just call balls and strikes. And many in IC risk their lives to ensure the President has the best intelligence possible. twitter.com/afp/status/109…

I’ve heard them make this comparison. By that logic we should have stayed in Vietnam. Our interests in Japan and Germany are far different. And Afghanistan is an active civil war.
