Getting the measure of social mobility
The Prime Minister has said the driving purpose of her government is to make Britain a country that works for everyone, not just the privileged few. The Civil Service, both in its role in supporting the government and as one of the country’s largest employers, must be at the centre of this effort.
Introducing the new MOT security card
As an MOT testing service user, you’ll get a brand new security card later this year to replace the current PIN system. This card will make the MOT service more secure by making sure only you can sign into your account.
It's OK to say what's OK
It’s difficult for newcomers at GDS to know what to expect, and what’s expected of them. Of course they get told all the official stuff – how they get paid, how to use the printer, who their line manager is. But it’s harder to communicate the unofficial stuff. The stuff that’s good to know, but that it’s no one’s job to tell you.
Dealing with driving test waiting times
Last August, we said what we were doing as an agency to reduce waiting times. Since then, we’ve recruited and trained more examiners and looked at other ways where we can have a more positive impact. However, we know there’s still more to be done as many test centres have waiting times that are still higher than we would like.
Lewi, George and designer dog breeds
Following the loss of my family dog, I was ready to find a new puppy. But I was having trouble deciding on which breed. A customer had phoned to tell me he had invented a new dog breed and asked if he could patent it. I soon learned that certain inventions are excluded from being patented.
