We are continuing the convo about community-led development & economic democracy in NYC. CAAAV members are determined not to let corporations & profits decide what our tomorrow will look like - the labor, culture & joy of working-class immigrants built this city!

When wanted to build HQ2 in Queens, CAAAV members & groups across Queens fought back & WON. Amazon thought they could control the conversation w/ $$ & power, but we want community-led development - to build a future for our working-class immigrant families & neighbors. ✊

RGB tenant rep Sheila Garcia of said it best tonight... “Let’s not ignore the elephant in the room. This is about RACE and CLASS.” Working-class people of color have faced systemic housing discrimination throughout NYC history & that continues today!

Tonight the Rent Guidelines Board voted for a 1.5% increase for 1yr leases & a 2% increase for 2yr leases for rent stabilized tenants. CAAAV’s Chinatown members know this is NOT ENOUGH to shift the pressures of rent burden in working class neighborhoods.
