Can I look up the differences in algorithm impact? Then I'll look it up when I need it.

Mostly about knowing about different tool sets...surprisingly how little primitive-optimized libraries ppl know about too

The point being, it's hard to lookup performance impacts if you don't know to look them up :)

Having interviewed many people with a white board, I see good value there in figuring out if somebody can reason or not

But unless it's a completely new problem, it's not reasoning. It's just rote memorization. And I can ask for reasoning other ways.
