I don't want to go too far down the rabbit hole, I want to have the thing set up in about a day so that I can actually use it for work. It's mostly down to if I use Ubuntu or Arch, and if I use Gnome or Plasma as my desktop.

Have you tried deepin? Fast setup, debian based

It ate up all my ram and devtools slow, like this is IE. Chrome also eating my ram, but at least it works.

  1. You don't need an i7. Almost always you don't. This has been true since there were i5 vs i7 laptops.
  2. There is no 2018 ThinkPad in the X/P/T series which can't be equipped with at least 16GB RAM. Only the slotless machines (X280,X1 Carbon Gen 6 and the X1 Yoga Gen 3) stop this low, everything else has at least one slot and then the world is your oyster: 32GB modules are finally available so 40GB (one slot+8GB soldered to MB on the T480s), 64GB (two slots, T480, P1, X1E), 128GB (four slots on the P52/P72) is possible.

You need to specify other criteria.

Intel ark tells us that 8250u (according to your first statement we are looking at i5) supports 32Gb RAM maximum and psref indicating maximum of 24 (obviously because of 16GB pieces) Would 40Gb work in T480s? Same question about 64 in T480. Would it really work?

Hello.

I'm looking forward to join your community with my first ThinkPad and I think X1 extreme or P1 would be perfect laptop by my criteria. But I can't understand price difference between two models.

Models I'm refering to are 20MF000Rxx and 20MD0000xx.

If I understand correctly, there is only two differences: CPU and GPU. Since I don't care much about GPU, I wonder why P1 wih i7 cost about same as X1 with i5? Are there more differences, that not covered by psref?

Also, I'd like to ask, is there overheating problem with P1 on low to medium, but continuous load? From what I read, similar dell and asus heats to much on light loads (or even in idle state), so buyer should repaste undervolt and make other "improvements" which is a bit odd from buyers perspective, considering price of this machines.

I've also been struck by this.
Where I'm buying, the X1E is much cheaper than the P1, when the only difference is the GPU (in the comparison I'm using, that is).

Beginning to wonder if there's a lot of difference in the manufacturing process of these. I don't see what it can be.

Be what it may, somehow Lenovo values the P1 a lot higher for the same config bar the GPU.

That exactly what concerns me. Workstations usually bought by businesses, so they are more expensive. And here is more powerful (at least more cores) workstation that cost about 20 usd less than x1 extreme with 4 cores. Either I don't understand something, or they're mistaken and I should buy it as soon as possible.

Combine the differences in price, minimal performance gains in the real world (benches are synthetic and not a good comparison of performance, and considering we are still bound by heat and power consumption, I don’t see a point in spending over 100$ for a processor upgrade, just save that money towards in a new PC in 3 years

The thing is, that i5 x1x cost about 20 usd more than p1 with i7. So, probably, it would be 20 usd discount on processor upgrade

Probably I'm too late, but I have an opinion.

You, probably, have no idea if something will happen. You also just don't know if something would happen, will it be for one night or for the rest of your life. Just let things happen and see where it'll leads you. The only thing that matters is that you comfortable and happy in a healthy way.

Also, it can be pretty romantic even for one night. Be yourself and don't look to far in the future. Just get good time right now.

Original Poster2 points · 13 days ago

Normally I am pretty good about it, but especially when I drink I tend to get sentimental. It gets kind of bad if I have been talking to a girl and don't end up with her that night. I know this is exactly what I said I am not looking for, but my brain is weird. Anyway, I just have trouble getting out of my own head with this shit.

Mi Mix 2s is not part of the Android One program. You may be thinking of the Mi A1 or Mi A2/A2 Lite.

That's exactly what I mean. Why "custom rom" (such as miui) get updates earlier than pure Android One?

As one guy said, he cant send sms on Mi Mix after the update

Android One doesn't mean you get updates as fast as possible. It means you get WORKING updates fast as possible.

I remember how all my messages disappeared on A1, so it's not entirely true.

Yeah if I were to ever go back into the airline industry, I would definitely do something not customer facing. A lot of travelers are jackasses.

Edit: OK yes a lot of people are jackasses, thanks.

Also, while it's very true the flying experience isn't desirable, you're being an asshole if you're being a dick to the gate agents or flight attendants. In most situations, they have little to no control over the problems you've had to face.

Are some gate agents and flight attendants assholes sometimes? Sure, they're human too and no one's perfect. But I would guess their irritability has a lot to do with dealing with assholes earlier in the day, week, month, etc.

How about we all just be a little nicer to each other?

Maybe I'm mistaken, but it seems like they do tons of shells and fil it. That's your Redmi 200. Then, when they out of something like SoC or camera or something else and replace it with something cheaper or more expensive. That's your Redmi 200A, redmi 200S, redmi 200Whatever. At least, I think, that how it started.

I actually listen to my own mixes. May seem a bit arrogant at first but like 90% of the songs aren't my own and it helps me learn them better for mixing purposes.

It's techno

Yes, thank you. There is pro.ant.design with predefined layouts

1
  • Total budget and country of purchase: 130000 RUB or 1900 USD in Russia

  • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specifications

  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Everyday 2h one way public transport commute makes it important

  • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows 10. Pro edition out of the box is better, but not mandatory.

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 14-15.6 inches at most

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. JetBrains IDEs (1 or 2 instances at once), multiple docker containers, slack, multiple browsers, nodejs. All at once.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? TIS-100 at 1fps, Shenzhen IO at few more fps will be fine

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? No numpad, type-c power, HDMI, decent keyboard.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I have Mi Notebook Air 13'3 2016 and it's still good, but screen is too small for visual part of my work and increased workload with docker abd slack and so on is making it hot as hell. So now I'm looking towards dell xps 9570 (Core i7 8750H 2200 MHz/15.6"/1920x1080/16GB/256GB SSD), but maybe there is some other decent options. What I like in xps is upgradable RAM (I grew up of 8GB in last two years and that might be the thing in the future) and that I wouldn't need to buy new backpack because of its size.

Please note that some laptops appears in Russia late for half a year, and, usually, cost 100-200 usd more than on us Amazon. Also we don't have anything like clevo (found one seller and their prices are not ok) or gigabyte (found single out of stock last year aero 14).

I wouldn't be able to buy anything just now and planning my upgrade to December or January.

Edit: not that it's very important, but fixed commute time.

The most powerful bomb ever tested, the Tsar bomb, was the explosive equivalent of dropping two Mounts Everest from the same height.

Edit: because nobody asked, the energy of 1 Mount Everest dropped from 10,500 meters is about 1.40552 × 1012 kg × 9.81 ms-2 × 10500 m = 1.45 × 1017 Joules.

Edit2: proposal to change all measurements to Mounts Everest.

1 Mount Everest of length is the current height of Mount Everest, or about 8850 meters.

1 Mount Everest of time is the time it takes Mount Everest to grow a Mount Everest of length taller, or about 6.97734 × 1013 seconds.

1 Mount Everest of mass is the mass of Mount Everest, or about 1.40522 × 1012 kg.

1 Mount Everest of velocity is the speed at which Mount Everest grows, or about 1.26839168 × 10-10 ms-1.

1 Mount Everest of force is the force it takes to accelerate a mass of 1 Mount Everest with 1 Mount Everest or velocity, or a reasonable 178 Newtons.

Edit3: For those very, VERY few interested, Mounts Everest of energy (using the definition W=F*m, conflicting with the energy earlier calculate) and power can be found in the comments somewhere. They are:

Energy: about 1,577,734 J

Power: about 2.26122511 × 10-8 W

I am taking this way too far and way too seriously.

Hello, fellow coffee lovers. I got my hands on lightly roasted Rwanda Rugali Nyamasheke and roaster says that this is pretty acidic and fruity coffee. But I'm struggling to get fine cup of it. I tried to make it in v60, aeropress and chemex and the best I could get is some untasteful black tea notes. I tried to make my grind finer and coarser, water hotter and colder. I tried different proportions. Nothing works. Either it's too watery, or to bitter or just flat black tea.

My basic recipe is cofee to water ratio 1:17, 90-92 degrees Celsius water. Bloom for 45 seconds with water (about twice weight of coffee) for 45 seconds. Then pour slowly to the top with circular motion. Full brew takes about 2:30 or 2:45 and usually it's pretty decent cup of coffee, but not with this Rugali.

Has anyone encountered something like this or have a recipe I can try?

Edit: few words

It's really easy to underdevelop Rwandan coffees. The roaster probably went too light – when I've done that I've gotten woody, tannic, and sure, black tea notes. Maybe you could try a higher ratio? May mask some bitterness and increase body a little. Trick you into thinking it's not as tea like.

What is the reason for prettier ignore? Maybe you really don't need prettier, or maybe you need to configure some other tool. For example, we use eslint-config-prettier with eslint-config-airbnb, so all the styling is prettier responsibility, and everything else is eslint.
