Switzerland fines couple for wearing a burka

Swiss police penalised a couple for wearing traditional Islamic dress, only one week after a ban on face-covering headgear came into force. A businessman was given a €212 fine, while his female companion risks paying €9,228 in charges. Both are prominent campaigners for Muslim rights. They were walking in city of Ticino, which voted in 2013 to outlaw burkas. The local government is collecting signatures to make the ban nationwide.
