International Federation of Human Rights Describes Killing Jewish Civilians as "Resistance"

Recently, FIDH - International Federation of Human Rights held its 39th Congress in South Africa.

At the close of the conference, FIDH issued a resolution - called "Urgent resolution on Palestine".

In the resolution, this "human rights" organization discusses the recent spree of terror attacks against Israeli Jews. It doesn't condemn the attacks, though. It describes stabbing, shooting and running over Jews as "resistance" as it condemns "...the suppression of Palestinian resistance through the excessive use of force, recently manifesting in a 'shoot to kill policy' which resulted in the killing of over 200 Palestinians since October 2015." [emphasis in original]

For a "human rights" organization to describe murdering Jews as "resistance" undermines any claims it may have to morality.

Of course, since the meeting was held in South Africa, FIDH described Israel, and only Israel, as being guilty of "apartheid":

In light of the 39th FIDH Congress that is taking place in the symbolic location of Johannesburg, South Africa, and considering the developments in recent months in Israel/Palestine, FIDH repeats its call to Israel to end its longstanding occupation. FIDH also calls for Israel to end its apartheid measures and practices, discrimination policies, policies of arbitrary detention - particulary [sic] administrative detention, transfer of its civilian population into the occupied territory and the forced displacement of Palestinians from their land and homes. [emphasis in original]

Israel is the only nation in the world repeatedly accused of apartheid by FIDH.

The Palestinian authorities in the West Bank and Gaza are arresting, abusing, and criminally charging journalists and activists who express peaceful criticism of the authorities. The crackdown directly violates obligations that Palestine recently assumed in ratifying international treaties protecting free speech.

“Both Palestinian governments, operating independently, have apparently arrived at similar methods of harassment, intimidation and physical abuse of anyone who dares criticize them,” said Sari Bashi, Israel and Palestine country director at Human Rights Watch. “The Palestinian people fought hard to gain the protections that accompany membership in the international community, and their leaders should take their treaty obligations seriously.”

On November 20, the IDF targeted a car on a Gaza City street with two cameramen from al-Aqsa TV, Mahmoud al-Kumi, and Hussam Salama, killing them both. The deputy head of al-Aqsa TV, which is the official television station of the Hamas government in Gaza, told Human Rights Watch that al-Kumi and Salama were cameramen covering the conflict and were returning from filming in al-Shifa Hospital in a car marked “TV.” The two men’s families, interviewed separately, said the men were neither participating in the fighting nor members of any armed group. Human Rights Watch found no evidence, including during visits to the men’s homes, to contradict that claim. Hamas’s armed wing, al-Qassam Brigades, has not put either man on its official list of killed fighters– an unlikely omission if the men had been playing a military role.

The claim by Human Rights Watch is directly contradicted by what blogger Elder of Ziyon found [http://bit.ly/2c3tWrm]:

Islamic Jihad doesn't describe him as a journalist, but as an instructor for the Mujahideen of Al-Quds Brigades in Deir al-Balah Battalion Brigade.

Similarly, Hamas message boards refer to Hussam Salama as a "mujahid." That is not a word used to describe civilians.

I can understand how journalists may be sensitive to others who are purportedly of their profession being targeted. But Israel was clearly aiming at terrorists, not at "journalists."

Does anyone know that this camp has been without water supply for more than 720 days, and without electricity for the past three years? In June 2002, 112,000 Palestinians lived in Yarmouk. By the end of 2014, the population was down to less than 20,000.

o Nor is the alarm bell struck concerning the more than 12,000 Palestinians languishing in Syrian prisons, including 765 children and 543 women. According to Palestinian sources, some 503 Palestinian prisoners have died under torture in recent years, and some female prisoners have been raped by interrogators and guards.

o When Western journalists lavish time on Palestinians delayed at Israeli checkpoints, and ignore bombs dropped by the Syrian military on residential areas, one might start to wonder they are really about.
